Godwin was orphaned after the death of his grandparents in 2001. He lives with his fourteen year old sister in a small shack with no running water or electricity. Born with physical disabilities, Godwin has lived a tough life and has often turned to using his disability as a means to beg for money to feed his family. Upon entering Mawuvio's School, Godwin gained the self-confidence he needed to excel educationally despite his disabilities. Godwin has emerged as a leader amongst his peers and now aspires to become the goal keeper for Ghana's Black Star football team.
School Year 2012
Kidawa's father died while her mother was still pregnant with her. In 1997, when Kidawa was just two years old, her mother died as well. Kidawa now lives with her grandfather and uncle. Her grandfather is poor and depends on a small digging farm to provide for Kidawa.
School Year 2011
Reagani is from Moshi, Tanzania. After his father died, his mother, sister, and brother disappeared and Reagani took to the streets where he picked up iron scraps to make money. In 2009, Reagani went to find his grandfather hoping to live with him, but his grandfather sent him back to the streets where he met a Msamaria staff member, who invited him to the Msamaria Center for street kids. There, Reagani says he receives "good breeding and good lessons" and is very grateful for the help of the center. Reagani says he wants to study so that he can fly and see the world.
