Martha is one of three children (she has one brother and one sister). Her mother, who did not attend to secondary school, is a farmer while her father, who was able to attend secondary school and speaks English, is a tailor. Martha walks 30 minutes to school everyday. Martha believes education will allow her to help her family and the people of Tanzania. She states that without education, one cannot have a good life.
