Tell Your Story

Answer some or all of the questions below in the text box provided. Your answers will be displayed on the discussion page after clicking submit.

If you were to select one food to represent your country or local community, what would the food be?

How is it prepared?

Food traditions vary widely from place to place. For example, in South Korea, some people eat octopus while it is still alive and the legs are moving.

Does your culture have any food traditions that outsiders would consider unusual?

Choosing to eat, or not to eat, can have cultural and religious connotations. In many places, for the month of Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. Similarly, some Jewish people choose to fast during the holiday Yom Kippur.

Have you ever chosen to fast to honor a higher purpose in your culture or your community?

How does your local community or government make sure that people where you live do not go hungry?
