About

I am the oldest in our family. My father is a driver at Udzungwa. His education is standard 7. He did not go to secondary school because his parents separated and my grandmother lived like a widow. My father left school to help my grandmother. In 1999, he was employed in Udzungwa as a driver. That is the story about my father. My mother's education is standard 7, too. Because of her family's poverty, she could not continue her studies. Later, she married my father. As for me, if I get the chance of education, I will not let it go. I believe a golden chance never comes twice. I love orphans more than anything and if I become a doctor, I will help them get a better education.

Matata is a daring young boy who believes that success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable. He is the last born in a family of four. His parents are unemployed and largely depend on subsistence farming, which has been negatively affected by frequent severe droughts. Most of the rural roads in his village are very impassable and this has pushed him towards achieving his dream of becoming an engineer. Since Matata was a young boy, he has always liked playing football not only at home but also in school and he was the goalkeeper for his school team.
