Vincent is the third born in a family of four. His parents separated leaving the burden of supporting the family to his mother. The mother is currently unemployed and only does casual job to cater for family needs. While in Primary school, Vincent was often sent home to collect school levies and this affected his studies. He could spend almost half of the night reading to compensate the lost time. Despite the challenges, he worked tirelessly to achieve the best in his primary education. Vincent aspires to be a doctor in future. He believes that quitters never win but winners never quit. He likes watching football and reading storybooks.

Mwau is fifth born in a family of six. His parents are unemployed and only do casual jobs to cater for the family needs and also pay school fees for his elder three siblings who are in secondary school. Food has always been inadequate in their family. His teachers helped to pay for his school levies in order to remain in school. He toiled hard to shine in his academics. He could get to school very early to utilize the electricity to study. He also accredits his success to being a well-disciplined, God fearing, consulting the teachers and co-operating with them. Mwau is very determined to become an electrical engineer and help the community. He believes that hard work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. He loves athletics.

Kaluki is the fourth born in a family of five. Her mother deserted the family and she and her siblings are currently living with her aged grandmother who is currently unable to work. The family depends on well-wishers to cater for their needs. Kaluki completed her primary education in 2019 and was unable to join secondary school due to lack of school fees. She decided to repeat grade eight with great hopes of joining high school. Despite the challenges, she emerged the best student in her school. She aspires to be a cardiologist to save the lives of many. Kaluki believes that hard work pays. She loves singing.

Charles is an orphaned boy who is determined and hardworking. His single mother passed on in 2009, leaving him under the care of his aged grandparents. He is the only child in his family. Charles did his national exam and emerged to be the best student in his class! His elderly grandparents are not in a position to cater for his secondary school fees since they have no source of income. Charles has always chased his dream of becoming a nurse and he believes that once you choose hope, anything is possible. He is a fan of playing football during his leisure time.

Susan is the second-born child in a family of three. Her eldest brother is in high school. Two years back her mother was diagnosed with a heart disease that has taken toll on their meagre earnings. Their father is a casual construction worker and everything he earns goes to treating their ailing mother. Her elder brother has been out of school due to huge fees balance. Despite the family challenges, Susan has kept her dream alive. She has constantly worked hard in school and her dream is to become a doctor so as to help people like her mother. She believes in Nelson Mandela's quote that education is the greatest weapon that one can use to change the world.

Muthini is the third born in a family of six. Her father is a drunkard and abusive and has neglected the family leaving the mother the only sole bread winner. She currently does casual jobs and the burden of taking care of the large family has overwhelmed her. Muthini is very determined and aggressive to achieve her dreams and become a doctor in future. Doing thorough revision and consulting with her teachers earned her a trump card. She likes reading storybooks and believes that hard work pays and never goes unrewarded. Muthini loves reading storybooks.

Emmaculate is the last born in a family of three; one sister and one brother. Her parents rely on subsistence farming for livelihood, which has been greatly affected by the changing climate. While in primary school, Emmaculate spent most of the time at home while the other students were at school. This was because of lack of finances to cater for some of the requirements at school. This did not stop her but instead propelled her towards achieving her dream of becoming a cardiologist in order to save lives. Her role model is Barack Obama and she likes his phrase of ‘Yes we can’. Moreover, she likes reading story books during her free time.

Mutheu is the fifth born child from a family of 6 children. Her parents rely on casual jobs to sustain the family. Despite being sent home due to school levies every now and then, she has remained resolved towards achieving her dream of becoming a teacher. Mutheu believes that knowledge is power and she wants to pass it to students to end illiteracy in the rural areas. She also wants to empower students to attain their dream careers and occupations so as to improve their livelihoods. During her free time, she likes to read novels.

Matata is a daring young boy who believes that success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable. He is the last born in a family of four. His parents are unemployed and largely depend on subsistence farming, which has been negatively affected by frequent severe droughts. Most of the rural roads in his village are very impassable and this has pushed him towards achieving his dream of becoming an engineer. Since Matata was a young boy, he has always liked playing football not only at home but also in school and he was the goalkeeper for his school team.
