Daniel is a very determined boy. While in primary school Daniel did not have a reading lamp. He had to utilize much of his daytime by forgoing break and recess time to catch up on his studies. He was able to overcome and emerge the best in the class. Daniel believes that education is the only key to his success. He is the first-born child in a family of three. His father is a wood carver whose small earnings have been depleted by hospital bills of ailing members of his extended family.

Nzioka is the lastborn child in a family of six. His parents are aged and only depend on subsistence farming to bring up their family. Although Nzioka faced a myriad of challenges in school, including being send home for school levies, he emerged the best student in his school. He aspires to be a doctor in future in order to help the less fortunate students in the society who suffer from various ailments so that they can study comfortably. Nzioka believes that working hard and believing in God makes everything possible.

She has two sets of grandparents who she stays with. The family is very poor. She also has four sisters.

After Brenda's family was abandoned by their father, she and her four siblings were raised by their working mother. She became pregnant at the young age of 16, and eventually gave birth to a stillborn child. She had a very difficult delivery and required surgery. She was fortunate to find a clinic in Eldoret that provided the surgery she needed to heal. During her recovery, she dreamed of returning to school to study her favorite subject, English, and become a teacher. She is now a studious member of Class 7 at St. Joan's Academy, and is on track to graduate in 2020.

Faith's parents are too poor to afford her education. She has three brothers and one grandmother. She loves playing football (soccer).

Lloyds father died recently serving as a police officer. His family was very supportive of Wema’s efforts until the passing of his father. His mother is now unable to provide support for the school fees for his brothers and him. Lloyds needs help in pursuing his dream of becoming a lawyer.

Sebastian was born in Loja in the south of Ecuador and lived for five years with his grandparents, while his parents went to other cities in search of work. For the last six months he's been living in Quito with his parents and his sister: the family has been re-united.
