Nzilani is the second born in a family of two. She lives with her aged grandmother and her mother, who is mentally deranged. Since her family does not have any breadwinner, Nzilani has been supported by community members, well-wishers and teachers who were her cheerleaders. Nzilani dreams of being a teacher to help improve the quality of life in society. She enjoys reading the Bible and storybooks. She believes she can do anything in God's power since God is the giver of everything.
Vincent is the third born in a family of four. His parents separated leaving the burden of supporting the family to his mother. The mother is currently unemployed and only does casual job to cater for family needs. While in Primary school, Vincent was often sent home to collect school levies and this affected his studies. He could spend almost half of the night reading to compensate the lost time. Despite the challenges, he worked tirelessly to achieve the best in his primary education. Vincent aspires to be a doctor in future. He believes that quitters never win but winners never quit. He likes watching football and reading storybooks.
Emmanuel is the only child in his family. His mother is a single parent and has abandoned Emmanuel leaving him with his grandparents. His grandmother is very sick and on a wheelchair. His grandfather who is unemployed, struggles to take care of his ailing wife and Emmanuel. Despite the challenges he faced, he beat all odds and emerged to be the top student in his school. Emmanuel aspires to be a nurse to take care of the sick people just like his grandmother. He believes in working smart; not hard. He enjoys playing football.
Susan is the second-born child in a family of three. Her eldest brother is in high school. Two years back her mother was diagnosed with a heart disease that has taken toll on their meagre earnings. Their father is a casual construction worker and everything he earns goes to treating their ailing mother. Her elder brother has been out of school due to huge fees balance. Despite the family challenges, Susan has kept her dream alive. She has constantly worked hard in school and her dream is to become a doctor so as to help people like her mother. She believes in Nelson Mandela's quote that education is the greatest weapon that one can use to change the world.
Agnes is the second born child in a family of six. Despite facing many challenges, she managed to emerge second top student in her school. Her poor background did not deter her from achieving her goal. She is very determined to succeed in life and become the first surgeon in her village. Her father is a woodcarver while her mother is a house wife. Due to lack of market for wood carvings her father has not been able to provide for the big family. This coupled with frequent droughts has seen the family lack basic needs like food. Agnes is very focused and believes that no man is limited in this world.
Enoch comes from a humble family of two and he is the first born child. His parents are unemployed and depend on casual jobs to sustain their family and thus unable to raise his secondary school fees. Despite staying home for most of the time throughout his primary education due to lack of school levies, his dream to become a mechanical engineer has kept her focused. Enoch has seen a number of people in his area struggle too much when their machines and engines break down and there is no one to help repair them. He would also like to help the needy and poor families support their children in becoming better persons in the future. His hobbies are drawing and taking photographs. He holds on to the quote that says the road to success is not straight.
Purity comes from a family of six siblings; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is the fifth born child in her family. She lives with her parents who do casual jobs to cater for the family needs. Her elder siblings dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. Despite the challenges that she faced, her dream of becoming a doctor to treat her ailing mother, who always complains of severe headaches and pneumonia, has not shattered. Purity hopes that one day she will get her family from the shackles of poverty that they are in and she believes that where there is a will there's a way.
Mutheu is the second born in a family of three. Her father abandoned the family and her mother has remained to be the sole breadwinner. She does casual jobs to cater for her family basic needs. During her primary schooling, Mutheu was often sent home to collect school levies. Despite the challenges she faced, she emerged to be the top student in her school. Managing time well and discipline was her secret to success. Mutheu�s dream is to become journalist. She believes that nothing good goes unrewarded. She likes reading storybooks.
Christine is the firstborn in a family of two. Her mother is a single parent and the sole breadwinner of the family. Christine completed her primary education in 2020 and was unable to join secondary school due to lack of school fees. She decided to repeat grade eight with great hopes of doing much better. And joining high school. Despite the challenges, she emerged the best student in her school. She aspires to be a neurosurgeon so she could save the lives of many. Christine believes that winners never quit and quitters never win. She loves reading and telling stories
Matata is a daring young boy who believes that success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable. He is the last born in a family of four. His parents are unemployed and largely depend on subsistence farming, which has been negatively affected by frequent severe droughts. Most of the rural roads in his village are very impassable and this has pushed him towards achieving his dream of becoming an engineer. Since Matata was a young boy, he has always liked playing football not only at home but also in school and he was the goalkeeper for his school team.
Mwau is fifth born in a family of six. His parents are unemployed and only do casual jobs to cater for the family needs and also pay school fees for his elder three siblings who are in secondary school. Food has always been inadequate in their family. His teachers helped to pay for his school levies in order to remain in school. He toiled hard to shine in his academics. He could get to school very early to utilize the electricity to study. He also accredits his success to being a well-disciplined, God fearing, consulting the teachers and co-operating with them. Mwau is very determined to become an electrical engineer and help the community. He believes that hard work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. He loves athletics.
Agnes is an outgoing girl who completed her primary education and passed very well. She is the first born child with two young brothers and one sister. Her mother is a single mom. She is self-employed as a tailor and her earnings are not sufficient to pay her daughter’s secondary school fees. The family lives in a rented single room. Agnes believes that hard work pays and desires to work hard to uplift her family from poverty and also help the aged as well children who come from poor backgrounds. She aspires to be a doctor to treat sick people from all over the world. Her hobby is reading story books.
Kaluki is the fourth born in a family of five. Her mother deserted the family and she and her siblings are currently living with her aged grandmother who is currently unable to work. The family depends on well-wishers to cater for their needs. Kaluki completed her primary education in 2019 and was unable to join secondary school due to lack of school fees. She decided to repeat grade eight with great hopes of joining high school. Despite the challenges, she emerged the best student in her school. She aspires to be a cardiologist to save the lives of many. Kaluki believes that hard work pays. She loves singing.
Fedelis is the last-born child in a family of three. He first sat for his primary education exam in 2018 and passed very well. His father could not afford to take him to secondary school and therefore he decided to repeat grade eight with the hope of getting a scholarship to pursue his goal. Fedelis attributes his success to his discipline and cooperation with teachers. He remains focused to achieve his goal of becoming an engineer in future to help his community. He believes that hard work never goes unrewarded.
