ASEM (Association Pour Les Enfants de Mozambique) supports vulnerable children in Mozambique. It seeks to improve children's lives by safeguarding their rights, supporting their dignity and providing education, psychosocial support and professional training. ASEM operates a private secondary school and supports students attending local public schools. A scholarship pays for students' school fees, uniforms, food, and transportation.
Flavia was born in Beira on September 12, 2010, where she lives with her grandmother. She is an orphan and has one brother; Her mother died in 2016 and her father a few months later, victims of illness. Flavia is well-behaved, likes to read books and review school material with friends, and in her free time she helps her grandmother who has problems with one foot, with housework and then goes to play with her friends. She wants become a teacher of the Portuguese language. Her grandmother can't work due to her age and foot problems. She receives support from her family which isn't enough for all their needs.

Lúcia was born in the city of Beira, Sofala province, on April 14, 2006, where she lived with her parents. She is a brave girl who likes to study, and to play with her friends “jumping rope” and “neca”. In her free time, she reviews school subjects and helps her mother with the house duties. Lúcia has 2 sisters and 2 brothers, they are all studying in primary education. Lúcia’s father died on October 29, 2010, due to illness. He used to be a police officer. Lúcia, lives with her mother in their house that consists of 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, and has an outside bathroom made of bags and no piped drinking water, which they buy at the neighbor's house. Her mother works in rice fields in the Inhamizua area. When there is no work in the fields, she buys dried fish, butter beans and tomatoes, and sells it at the local market. What she earns is not enough to sustain their day - to - day life. Lúcia’s preferred subject at school is Portuguese and she wants to become a Teacher. During 2020, due to COVID 19, the students had to study at home, going weekly to the school to buy brochures and copies of tests. Most of the kids could not afford it.

Clarice, was born in the city of Beira in, 2008, residing in the Macurungo area. She is an orphan of her father who died in 2015 and has one sister. Clarice, is a well-behaved and healthy girl. In the academic year 2021 she was satisfactory approved to grade 9. Her preferred discipline is Portuguese. In the academic year 2022, she attends 9th grade. For the family's sustainability, her mother sells fish in the Macurungo market, but with what she earns she cannot support the children�s schooling. The house where the family lives, has 1 bedroom and 1 living room, has piped drinking water and low-cost energy, with an outside bathroom, made of bags.

Elayne was born on May 7, 2011 in the city of Beira, where she lives with her mother, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Her father died in 2023, victim of illness. She likes to play rope with her friends and in her free time and helps her mother at home. She loves studying and her preferred subject is Portuguese. Elayne's dream is to become a lawyer and work to support her family. Her mother is selling little products in front of her home; this small business is not enough to support all the expenses of the family.

Alberto was born on September 16, 2010. His father died in August 2011 victim of illness. Alberto is well-behaved, he likes to play football with his friends and in his free time, he stays home to review his school work and helps his mother with housework. Alberto lives with his mother, 2 brothers and one sister in Macurungo, in a rental house. She sells at the Chiveve Market, nonetheless, what she earns is not enough to support the family during one month. His favourite subject is Mathematics. He would like to become a traffic police officer to support his family and have a worthy life.

Belita was born in on November 15, 2010. Her father passed away in 2014. She has 2 sisters and 1 brother and lives with her mother and stepfather. Her parents do little jobs to be able to support the family. Belita is humble and very friendly, respectful and an example to follow. She likes to help her mother with the housework and in her free time she plays rope jumping and cloth balls with her friends and dedicates a lot of time to her studies. Belita would like to study until she completes secondary school to undertake training to become a nurse; her dream is to save lives.
