Patricia lives with her three older sisters in a small wooden shack in Kissemah Village. After the death of her mother, Patricia was forced to drop out of public school because of her inability to pay school fees. After being enrolled at Mawuvio's School Patricia emerged as a leader within the student body as her academics greatly improved. Patricia believes that education is important for her to become successful in the future and aspires to become a teacher.

Charity is the top student in Form 4 at Highway Academy. Her father has been unable to work after falling from a tree in 2010, and her mother struggles to provide for all 6 of her children. Charity depends on the support of others to stay in school, but despite these hardships her future is incredibly bright. She shows particular promise in her language classes and her teachers praise her willingness to participate. She demonstrates extreme dedication to her schoolwork and hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.

Isaac is the first-born child in a family of four children. His father works as a gateman in his school while his mother is a housewife. His father's little earnings takes care of the family needs and also pays for school fees for him and his sister who is in form one in the same school. The burden of paying school fees is overwhelming for his father and quite often Isaac and his sister stays at home due to lack of school fees. However, Isaac's performance in class in quite exemplary. He is determined to go to the university. To him a bright future can only be realized through education.

On an average day, Victor typically wakes up at 4am and begins his 4 mile walk to school. Victor's home life is difficult as he is an orphan living with his handicapped grandmother. Despite the challenges that Victor faces on a day-to-day basis, he is a very intelligent and optimistic boy who has aspirations of one day becoming a doctor.

Paul is a very intelligent boy who managed to be at the top of his class in grade 8 while at primary school. When asked why he wants to become a teacher, Paul responded, "I wish to develop my community." Originally born in Zambia, Paul moved to Malawi following the death of his father to live with his grandmother. After standard 7, trouble with finances forced Paul to quit school and work in the fields for income. However, seeing his great potential, his headmaster was able to convince his grandmother of the importance of continuing his education and he was able to return. Having experienced financial hardships within his family, Paul sees the importance of education and the role it plays in being able to provide for his future family.
