My life is hard because in our family are 7 children and other relatives. My father is a fisherman, my mother is a housewife. My father normally leaves home for more than two months to fish in Kidatu dam. He can’t catch enough fish because he doesn’t have sufficient tools. He cannot provide us all the basics. I got a TSF scholarship and I was proud when I passed my O-level studies. My A-level studies start in July. I am thankful for TSF help. I want to be a doctor and will study and work to achieve. One day I will be able to help my family overcome the difficulties we are going through.

My name is Amani. The most difficult experience I had in early life was poverty. From poverty I learned that education is the only instrument that can eradicate it. My dream for my life is to become a doctor and I will get there through obedience to teachers and working with teachers and students who have experience in science subjects and studying hard. I will make sure that improvement in my studies takes first position. I will work with other students and share ideas with them. I want to reach my goal in science subjects. I felt especially proud of myself when I passed the Form 4 National examinations. The happiest moment of my life would be to succeed in my studies. What I want to accomplish over four years is to have my school fees paid and to keep studying hard so as to reach my goal.

Juma is the third born of four children. He and his three siblings struggle to live on his father's income which is about a dollar a day. As the third born, Juma's father provided for his older siblings first, so Hassan had very little while attending primary school. He could not afford his tuition fees or food at school and had very little for school supplies. Despite hardships, Juma was determined and, together with the assistance from TAFARE, passed his primary school exams to continue on to secondary school.

Komlavi has no recollection of his parents and has been orphaned his whole life. He lives with his two best friends Ben and Isaac in a small shack they built last year out of wood and metal scraps they found around Kissemah Village. Quiet and shy Komlavi likes to spend his time studying, practicing reading and writing English. He also enjoys creating electrical devices for his house out of thrown away batteries and wires he finds in the garbage. His most recent invention was a small battery powered light he built for his small house which otherwise had no electricity or running water.
