Diego is an honor roll student and wants to attend high school (prepa) in Mérida. He has qualified for this esteemed school but does not have the funds for the daily transportation of 30 pesos ( approximately $2.70/day) Diego's father works in a t-shirt factory and is the sole support of their family of six. Diego needs help with transportation costs, books, and uniform costs in order to attend high school.

Missael lives in Chicxulub Pueblo with his family and has been a volunteer tutor with Proyecto Itzaes in his village for four years. He is determined to do well in school and hopes to do well enough in high school to be able to attend college. Missael's family cannot afford to contribute to his school costs so he struggles to make enough money with odd jobs to stay in school and to pay for basic school supplies like books, photocopies and a uniform.

Mariza lives in the village of Chicxulub Pueblo, Yucatån, Mexico with her mother, father and baby brother Ian. Her father don Alex is the sole support of their family although her mother doña Veronica is a dedicated volunteer leader in Proyecto Itzaes providing educational opportunities for the community. Mariza loves science and want to be a pediatrician. The Canto Ku family believes strongly in the value of education to escape poverty but the cost of transportation and school supplies like books, paper, and uniforms are beyond the means of her father's salary. Mariza works very hard in school and has excellent grades and she tutors other students at Proyecto Itzaes several times a week. She is committed to staying in school but needs help.
