Sakiya has four brothers, two sisters, and lives with her father. Sakiya is an active person who enjoys playing sports, especially soccer with her younger brother. She also enjoys watching movies during the holidays, since she does not have time to watch movies when in school. Sakiya’s biggest challenge is learning English, but by continuing to speak and read in English she is working on improving her English ability. In the future, Sakiya hopes to be a doctor to help the poor.

Elim is from the community of Llanchu, above Calca, in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Elim hopes to study Hotel Administration at a post-secondary institute in Cusco, and to one day become a role-model in her community and employ graduates from the Mosqoy Youth Program. She also wishes to use the knowledge and tools she gains to support her mother, who makes beautiful textiles. Elim is currently working hard to pass the entrance exams, as she is facing a lot of competition from her fellow peers, as well as classmates who had better access to high-school education. We are supporting her at every step of the way and providing her with preparatory academies and tutors.

Yvonne is the second born child in a family of five. She is a very bright student and wants to be a lawyer in future. Her dream of becoming a lawyer has been propelled by the need to help the less privileged in the society especially girls and mothers get justice. Her parents are unemployed and only depend on casual jobs to provide for the family. Yvonne believes that success never comes on a silver platter.

Susan is the second-born child in a family of three. Her eldest brother is in high school. Two years back her mother was diagnosed with a heart disease that has taken toll on their meagre earnings. Their father is a casual construction worker and everything he earns goes to treating their ailing mother. Her elder brother has been out of school due to huge fees balance. Despite the family challenges, Susan has kept her dream alive. She has constantly worked hard in school and her dream is to become a doctor so as to help people like her mother. She believes in Nelson Mandela's quote that education is the greatest weapon that one can use to change the world.

Mariza lives in the village of Chicxulub Pueblo, Yucatån, Mexico with her mother, father and baby brother Ian. Her father don Alex is the sole support of their family although her mother doña Veronica is a dedicated volunteer leader in Proyecto Itzaes providing educational opportunities for the community. Mariza loves science and want to be a pediatrician. The Canto Ku family believes strongly in the value of education to escape poverty but the cost of transportation and school supplies like books, paper, and uniforms are beyond the means of her father's salary. Mariza works very hard in school and has excellent grades and she tutors other students at Proyecto Itzaes several times a week. She is committed to staying in school but needs help.
