Sarita belongs to a large family which is mainly uneducated. She lost her father many years ago. In spite of this she works hard at her studies and is making an active attempt to improve herself academically. She has a very good attitude. Given any task to perform she tries to get it done. She also tries to participate in the day to day co-curricular activities in school.

Gazala's nimble feet have led her to find joy in dancing, and her flexible attitude has led her to become a star actor among her friends. Passionate about maintaining cleanliness, the 8th grader has noticed with distaste the trend of taking girls out of school to participate in household chores instead of boys. Nurturing of other girls in her community, the 14-year-old hopes to stand as an example of gender equality and continue to break barriers for girls in society.

Ritu Yadav is always bubbling with answers. Her hands gesture wildly as she explains her interest in making speeches. Ritu uses her voice to speak out against caste discrimination and the gender inequality she sees all around her. Growing up in Uttar Pradesh, India Ritu has constantly been bombarded by things she can't do as a girl. She's determined to change that. Inspired by her mentor, Mr. Mithai Lal, she plans to become a math professor and continue to speak out for gender equality. She is completely determined for girls' to be recognized for their capability and ability to do the same things boys do.

Shamni is the eldest one of her four siblings. She passed 5th class from prathmik vidyalaya. There is no government school after primary. Her father is a rickshaw puller so he couldn't afford her fee, so she dropped out year after 5. This year she took admission under the Swabhiman program.

Jazmin is the youngest of three siblings. Her eldest sister is working as a call center agent in Taguig. Her other older sister is a first year studying Information Technology at La Consolacion College of Tanauan. Her parents do not work. This means that the only income they have is from Jazmin's eldest sister. This also means to Jazmin that her studies and her dream are not the priorities of the family. They have to fulfill their basic needs first while the rest of their funds go to the school expenses of her older sister. As a third year high school student at Bernardo Lirio Memorial National High School, Jazmin believes that she will be be able to reach her dream. It starts with good grades and study habits. She is currently enrolled in Section B but used to be in Section A, the star section. She requested to be transferred because of the pressure that she experienced in Section A. This does not mean, however, that she has no penchant for studies. In fact, she loves studying so much and will do everything to get high grades. Section B, she says, is not bad after all since it is just one level lower than Section A. She still eligible to graduate with honors while in Section B.

Jonna is studious and a hard worker. Joanna plans to do even better in school this year so that she may can do finish high school in high standing and move on to college. The daughter of a carpenter, she is determined to help her family by graduating in college and getting a good job. She has 5 siblings aand the eldest has started work in a local factory. Her mother has no job at all since she is reponsible for taking care of Jonna's younger siblings. With her father's and older sister's concerted effort, they could only manage to put food on the table for the seven family members. Faced with this reality, Jonna promises to study hard for a brighter future for herself and her family.

Savitri had to drop out of school after 8th grade because her family could not financially support her. She is good at sports and is fond of sewing and singing. Cooking is Savitri's great interest and she wants to become a professional cook.

Sandhya was unable to continue her education after the 8th grade due to her family's inability to pay her school fees. Sandhya is keen to resume her studies now and go on to become a teacher so she can help other children in the village.

Dolly had to leave school because of the distance to the senior school. Her parents did not want to take the risk of sending her that far everyday. Dolly's father is a farmer in the village of Bhatpur. Dolly is talented at sewing and cooking and loves to sing. She loves to listen to and sing along with the radio. Dolly aspires to become a teacher.
