Pauline Moraa Pauline is a shy, bright, seven-year-old who is currently doing well in school after recovering from an unsafe family situation. Her loving grandparents sent her to Beyond Fistula due to concerns for her safety, and she has now happily adjusted to life here. The older women at Beyond Fistula are like her big sisters, and she loves her new 'family', as well as the opportunity to pursue her education.
School Year 2024
Lilian is the last-born child in a family of six. Her father was involved in a motorbike accident and has been unable to support the family. Most of the elder siblings dropped out of school and are unemployed. Lilian is so determined to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. Her good performance in her exams did not come on a silver platter. She had to wake up early in the morning to go to school to utilize electricity at school. At other times, she studied under the moonlight, as there was no source of light at home. She believes that without struggle there is no progress.

Neelam is a quite and shy child who is very considerate towards her friends and to those younger than her. She has a strong desire to prove herself and this is reflected in the hard work that she puts into her studies. Someday she hopes to become a teacher.

School Year 2018
Monicah is the fourth born child in a family of seven children. Her mother is divorced and and the sole bread winner of the family. She earns a living doing casual labor painting and sanding wood carvings to support the large family. However, recently she has been ailing and unable to work thus making it difficult for Monicah to continue with her education. Monicah has so far gone through many struggles like being sent home regularly due to unpaid school levies and wearing old school uniforms. Despite theses odds, she worked hard in her studies and scored 349 marks in her KCPE exam in 2015. She was among the top students at her primary school. Monicah is very optimistic about life. According to her, poverty is not going to deter her determination to join secondary school and study hard to be a medical doctor. Her role model is pope Francis and she dreams of becoming a doctor and building health centers to save the lives of mothers and children in her village.

Class Rank: 12/88 My dream is to be a dentist. I will learn how to keep teeth healthy, and how to remove the bad teeth without causing too much pain. I decided I want to be a dentist when I saw my mother was not able to eat well because of problem teeth. I will start a dental clinic in my village, I will feel happy when none of my villager has tooth problems. I will help children to go to the school and get good education, so that they can have a better life. I shall give back the School Fund portion of my salary to help poor students and community orphans.

Harshita's father is a farmer and her mother a home-maker. She has four siblings; one brother, and three sisters. She used to attend a Private school in her village. However, when she passed her 5th class, the school closed down, compelling her to discontinue her education for a year. Harshita's parents also could not afford to enroll her to other schools as they are financially very weak. Now that she is part of Milaan's Swaachna Learning and Resource Center, Harshita is more than happy to study. She aspires to be an Officer in the Indian Army because she wants to do something for her nation and her family. She wants to make her parents proud of her.
