A quiet leader, Papaa is initially shy but often steps up to take the initiative and motivate his peers. He is curious and calm, and his determination to continue his education is unwavering. Pappa is a natural athlete, and most enjoys playing football and dancing. To support their three children, Papaa’s father works as an accountant and his mother works as a primary school teacher.

Susan is the second-born child in a family of three. Her eldest brother is in high school. Two years back her mother was diagnosed with a heart disease that has taken toll on their meagre earnings. Their father is a casual construction worker and everything he earns goes to treating their ailing mother. Her elder brother has been out of school due to huge fees balance. Despite the family challenges, Susan has kept her dream alive. She has constantly worked hard in school and her dream is to become a doctor so as to help people like her mother. She believes in Nelson Mandela's quote that education is the greatest weapon that one can use to change the world.

Mueni is an outgoing girl who completed her primary education in 2017 and since her parents were unable to pay for her school fees she decided to repeat grade eight. Despite staying home for most of the time in the year due to small school levies, her dream to become a surgeon has kept her focused. Her parents are poor and only do casual jobs to cater for the family basic needs. Their house collapsed last year due to rains and they are now living in a makeshift house. ÊMueni believes that hard work never goes unrewarded.

Vincent is a disciplined and intelligent boy. His dream to become an electrical engineer started early in life when he learnt the skills of radio repair from a neighbor. He developed great interest in repairing radios that had been thrown away. Out of his curiosity, he repaired his first broken radio for his uncle and it worked! Later he repaired yet another broken radio for his grandfather and it worked too! Vincent's good performance in school did not come on a silver platter. He was able to sacrifice his sleep by sleeping late and waking up very early to study. He also consulted his teachers much on subjects he felt he needed help. He believes that hard work pays. Vincent is the only son to his single mother. He currently lives with his grandparents. His grandfather has suffered stroke and has not been able to help provide for Vincent.

Selpa's father is a cane cutter for the sugar factory. Her mother is a house wife. Among her seven siblings four have dropped out because they could not afford the school fees and supplies. During her primary school, Selpa was at home regularly as her parents struggled to raise the small fees demanded by the school. She also lacked stationery and used to do without lunch. Now Selpa's tuition, supplies and food are paid by a scholarship.

Zeyna is the firstborn child in a family of three. Her parents are unemployed and depend on subsistence farming, which has adversely been affected by frequent droughts. Zeyna is a brilliant young girl who is determined to achieve her goals despite the many challenges she has been going through. Her dream to become a journalist has been her driving force. She has been concerned about many cases happening in the rural areas with no one to report to the world. For her education is an eye opener.

Sheila is an orphan girl who strongly believes that hard work pays. She has never wanted any student to beat her in school and so she worked hard to be the best student in class. Despite the many challenges she faced in her primary education like going to school with taking a meal, she did her KCPE exam in 2017 and was the top girl at her school. Her ailing grandparents could not afford to pay for her school fees to join secondary school. However Sheila remains quite determined to continue secondary school and achieve her dream to be a doctor. She beliefs that eduaction is the key to successful life.

Nancy is the second born child in a family of 5 children; two brothers and two sisters. Nancy and her siblings live with their aging grand parents. Her mother is single and earns a living doing casual labor in town to support her family. Her little income however, can not support Nancy's education. Nancy sat for her KCPE exam in 2015 and scored 380 marks and was among the best students at her primary school. She is a brilliant girl with a strong passion to overcome the odds in her life to gain an education and earn a career. She believes that a good education is the foundation a successful life. She hopes to gain secondary education and study hard to become an accountant in the future.

Carolyne is the third born child in a family of six. Two of her sisters have been sick since childhood they have never been enrolled in school due to their health conditions. Carolyne's father is a casual laborer while the mother stays at home to take care of the sick children. The medical treatment of the children has depleted all the family resources and they have to depend on the mercy of well-wishers. Carolyne has faced many challenges. Many times she slept hungry without food but was always looking forward to being in school as there was a free lunch served (thanks to the school feeding program supported by a charity organization). Carolyne was determined and worked hard and excelled. Carolyne wants to be a doctor in future to treat people whom suffering (just like her two sisters) and improve the health of the people in Kenya.
