I have five siblings - one brother and four sisters. Subjects I love are Math and science as they do help me solve problems in real life. Learning math and solving problems is part of the many things that make me happy since when I get to teach others who might not understand when new things are taught I do get to learn again in the process. My hobby is drawing, this is what I enjoy doing when I am free. I do look forward to becoming an engineer when I grow up so as to make new designs of buildings and other things.

I am the last born of six children and lives under the care of my uncle and aunt. My mother passed away a while back and my father became mentally ill and disappeared. All my elder siblings never stepped into a secondary school and have since relied either on their spouses or doing menial jobs to survive. I want a better life for myself and education will be the best avenue. In school, I love social studies and hope to be a social scientist in future.

My name is Damallyne Merrine Apoda and I attend Othaya Girls High School. I previously scored 375 marks on the KCPE from Anajali Primary School. The environment in high school was completely different and I was really challenged during the first week. It was too cold to manage, as time went by I started managing it so well. I also got new friends and the teachers there are very friendly. I also had problems with time keeping. Attending school the school was difficult, as there were no school fees and my parents were stranded. I really thank God for the scholarship program. I joined a very good school and my dreams of getting good grades are still alive. My prayers are for things to get back to normal and place my efforts on studies.

I attended Desert Streams School and now am a student at Wamagan Girls School. The school is close to Mount Kenya, and it is very cold which was an adjustment coming from Nairobi. I work hard to achieve my goals because coming from the slums, this scholarship is my only chance to attend high school. I will study very hard to ensure that I can pass. I am very thankful for this opportunity.

My mother and father work very hard and I rarely see them. I learned to respect them instead of asking them why they never had time for the rest of the family. I learned how to survive on my own. My brother, sisters and I learned that we should stick together and be the best people. When we heard about the scholarship my family and I worked day and night to prepare for filling out the scholarship forms. I thank SUN for the opportunity.
