Milaan Foundation envisions an inclusive and equal world where every girl has the knowledge, skills and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential. Over the last 12 years, Milaan has worked with more than 35,000 children and young people and advocated for safer and more inclusive spaces for them at various state and national platforms. The Milaan School specifically serves low income and lower cast families in a rural community in Uttar Pradesh, India.

    Tabassum comes from Muslim family. In her community the percentage of girl education is too low. In her family no single women is literate. Her father is unemployed. Some time he works as a labor. Her father doesn't like to be a part of parents meetings. Tabbasum is very active girls and in studies. She participate in every activity. She is a good dancer. She likes science and Hindi classes. In sports she likes to play badminton and other local sports. She wants to be a home science teacher.

    When asked what she aspires to be, Ram Lali after thinking for a while says she wants to learn tailoring. Her aspiration is not to be a doctor or an engineer or a teacher. Her dream is very simple - to start a tailoring shop of her own. If she learns tailoring she says other people will come to her for tailoring needs, thus helping her earn money to support her family. Ram Lali is a very shy and soft spoken girl. Her father digs canals and her mother is a home maker. She is the second eldest amongst the four children. Her sister, who is the eldest, is married and her other siblings attend a Government run school. Having discontinued her education due to financial reasons, Ram Lali now regularly attends here classes. She has a love for badminton and Sanskrit. She enjoys coming to school as she gets to learn new things and can meet her friends. With a very simple dream to achieve, no one really knows what the future holds for Ram Lali. But she is happy, happy that her parents registered her for the Swabhiman program - an opportunity for her to continue her education.
