Milaan Foundation envisions an inclusive and equal world where every girl has the knowledge, skills and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential. Over the last 12 years, Milaan has worked with more than 35,000 children and young people and advocated for safer and more inclusive spaces for them at various state and national platforms. The Milaan School specifically serves low income and lower cast families in a rural community in Uttar Pradesh, India.

    Harshita's father is a farmer and her mother a home-maker. She has four siblings; one brother, and three sisters. She used to attend a Private school in her village. However, when she passed her 5th class, the school closed down, compelling her to discontinue her education for a year. Harshita's parents also could not afford to enroll her to other schools as they are financially very weak. Now that she is part of Milaan's Swaachna Learning and Resource Center, Harshita is more than happy to study. She aspires to be an Officer in the Indian Army because she wants to do something for her nation and her family. She wants to make her parents proud of her.

    Pammi is an active student. She participates in every activity. She helps her classmates in studies. She wants to become a teacher. Her hobby is reading Hindi books, especially motivational stories.

    14 year old Chaya Singh studies at SLRC under Swabhiman program. She joined SLRC in 2013. Her father depends on casual labor work for their livelihood and having economic challenges in their daily lives. She was a drop out girl and has taken admission after one year gap. It was not easy for her to pick up quickly after a long gap so she is been shifted to remedial classes to improve. She is regular student and takes active participation in extra curriculum activities. She is interested to play carom, badminton and kho-kho. As she likes sports a lot. So she wants to become a sports teacher. Her favorite subject is Hindi.

    At a very early age, Anita left her studies due to her family's poor financial condition. She wanted to continue her studies however her family didn't allow Anita to join school again. After two years, she is back in school and is studying in class 5. She is 13 year old and lives with her joint family. Her father is a laborer. Anita aims to be a teacher and enjoys playing kabbadi.
