About

Class Rank: 2/29 My happiest moment in life is when I scored the highest grade A in the class seven exams. My dream in life is to become a surgeon. I am going to get there by studying hard and read a lot of books. The most difficult experience in my life was when my father was seriously sick and finally died on a Sunday morning at 8:00AM. I learned no one is immortal, everybody can die unexpectedly. The moment which I felt proud of myself is when we build a new house. I plan to give back to the community, after I become a surgical Doctor. I will build a surgery hospital and treat those who can't afford the surgery. I plan to give back to the School Fund by contributing 10% of my salary and to work together with this organization.

Dear Students,

I love to collect wisdom from different sources that are meaningful to me.
Below are a few of my favorites that I would like to share with you:

1) When you master your emotions, you master your life
Anger. This is one emotion that is sure to pop up sometime during the day. How you deal with your anger says a lot about who you are as a person. How well do you manage your emotions? Do you have a harsh reaction if someone says something insulting to you? Anger can be a destructive emotion if not managed properly.

2) Respect other people’s opinions even when they differ from your own.

Conflict. It’s rare that two people agree on most topics. Conflict is everywhere. It happens at work, home, with family and friends. Disagreeing isn’t the problem (although most people think it is). The problem is not giving value to the opinions of others.

3) Experience The Joy Of Learning

Each time you learn something new you gain more knowledge and with more knowledge come more confidence. Learning helps us become more adaptable and flexible to new situations. Learning encourages us to be more creative and innovative in our thinking and we are therefore more comfortable with the unknown.
Reading books is a great way for us to learn. To fully embrace the joy of learning, never stop reading and searching for more knowledge.

4) Touch someone’s soul with your kindness

Random Acts of Kindness. It’s the little things in life that matter most. Hold a door, smile at people. Kindness does not cost much and it touches the soul of another person.

5) Speech is a powerful tool.

Your words. Watch your words carefully. They can be daggers or building blocks. You can crush the spirit of someone or make them feel like they can conquer the world. Taste your words before you spit them out. Words are your thoughts coming to life. It’s your choice.
What are your favorite quotes and wisdom to live by? I’d love to hear your thought on that.

Cheers,
Jonathan Gilbert
Dear Students,
I enjoy reading articles about life lessons and I would like to share with you some of my favorites. So here it is:
1. Be proud of who you are and not ashamed of how someone else sees you.
2. Always Be there. Be open. Be honest. Be kind. Be willing to listen, understand, accept, support, and forgive. This is what it means to love.
3. Life can still be beautiful, meaningful, fun, and be fulfilling even if things don’t turn out the way you planned.
4. Accept that you will never be perfect, life will always have challenges, and other people will sometimes disappoint you. Acceptance is the first step toward peace.
5. Never let success go to your head and never let failure go to your heart.
6. Always guard your head from your successes and your heart from your failures.
7. Your pain is an opportunity for you to learn about yourself.
8. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have with you.
9. Nobody’s perfect, so give yourself credit for everything you’re doing right, and be kind to yourself when you struggle.
10. You are not your struggles. You are the survivor who keeps moving forward in spite of them.
11. Life is what happens while we’re busy worrying about everything we need to change or accomplish. Slow down, get mindful, and try to enjoy the moment. This moment is your life.

Best,
Jonathan Gilbert
Dear Students,
I ran across a very interesting article about life lessons. I like it a lot and thought that you might enjoy reading it also. So here it is:
Life Lessons people most often learn too late in Life
1. Never compare your weaknesses to other people's strengths.
2. Own your life, or someone will own it for you.
3. We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.
4. If you accept your limitation, you go beyond them.
5. Comfort is the enemy of achievement.
6. Don't give others the power to control your emotion. Those are only yours and it is only for you to manipulate.
7. Victory introduces you to the world, but defeat introduces the world to you.
8. Don't rest after your first victory, because if you fail the second time, more lips will be waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.
9. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves.
10. The person that you will spend the most time with in your life is yourself, so better try to make yourself as interesting as possible.
11. While you’re growing up, your parents are growing old as well. Therefore, try to spend as much as time with them while you can.

Best,
Jonathan Gilbert
Dear Students,

A few years ago I came across a list consisting of some habits that are good to get into. I have incorporated these good habits into my daily life and I’d like to share them with you. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

1. Sleep early, around 9pm - 10pm. After working hard through the day, your body and mind need refreshing. Rest them as soon as possible.
2. Wake up early, around 5am - 6am. Start your day early. That time is the best time for inspiration to come in. After wake up, face the sky and the sun through your window. You will be motivated.
3. Be independent. Do your tasks by yourself. Solve your problem by yourself. Don’t always depend on other people. This doesn’t mean you should not get help from others.
4. Say thank you. Always say those 2 words if you get help from others.
5. Reading. Motivation and inspiration comes from what your eyes scanning for.
6. Writing. Put down in words on things that come to your head. Try to write 1 article per day. Having a diary is also a good approach.
7. Walking. Let sport always get into your day. The simplest one is walking. Keep moving and stay healthy.
8. Meditate. Focus on what you are doing. Finish it first and move to the other one. Don’t do multitasking. You can also meditate by sitting calmly and paying attention to your breath.
9. Help other people. Help people as they need and you are capable of doing it.

Have a great week,
Jonathan Gilbert
Hello Students,

I came across a great short TED (stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design — features "ideas worth spreading) talk that I’d like to share with you. This talk is titled: Secrets of success in 8 words, 3 minutes by Richard St. John. The author and speaker conducted 500 interviews on the subject, pulling wisdom from successful TEDsters along the way. After absorbing as much as he could, St. John compiled eight powerful secrets of successful people. In this TED Talk, he shares those important success habits.
1. Passion
“Freeman Thomas says, ‘I'm driven by my passion.’ TEDsters do it for love; they don't do it for money.”
2. Work
“Rupert Murdoch said to me, ‘It's all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun.’ Did he say fun? Rupert? Yes!”
3. Get Good
“Alex Garden says, ‘To be successful, put your nose down in something and get damn good at it.’ There's no magic; it's practice, practice, practice.”
4. Push
David Gallo says, ‘Push yourself. Physically, mentally, you've got to push, push, push.’ You've got to push through shyness and self-doubt.”
5. Support (aka moms)
“Frank Gehry said to me, ‘My mother pushed me.’ ”
6. Serve
“A lot of kids want to be millionaires. The first thing I say is: ‘OK, well you can't serve yourself; you've got to serve others something of value. Because that's the way people really get rich.’ "
7. Ideas
St. John says there’s no magical secret to coming up with ideas, only a process of thinking. A few simple exercises will do the trick, such as:
• Listening
• Observing
• Being curious
• Asking questions
• Solving problems
• Making connections
8. Persistence
“Persist! Joe Kraus says, ‘Persistence is the number one reason for our success.’ You've got to persist through failure.”
If you have internet access at your library, below is the link to the talk if you’d like to watch the video presentation:

I enjoyed this talk and hope you do to 

Dear Students,

This week, the US celebrated one of our largest holidays: Thanksgiving.
In the United States, Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day is a public holiday on the fourth Thursday in November. On this day, people remember the first American Thanksgiving, when the first European settlers had been taught how to grow food by the NativeAmericans, and they celebrated the successful harvest together.

For many of us, the meaning of Thanksgiving usually includes feasting, four-day weekends, football games, floats, family reunions, or a forerunner to Christmas festivities. The “first Thanksgiving,” however, was neither a feast nor a holiday, but a simple gathering. Following the Mayflower’s arrival at Plymouth Rock on December 11, 1620, the Pilgrims suffered the loss of 46 of their original 102 colonists. With the help of 91 Indians, the remaining Pilgrims survived the bitter winter and yielded a bountiful harvest in 1621. In celebration, a traditional English harvest festival, lasting three days brought the Pilgrims and natives to unite in a “thanksgiving” observance.

This year, I celebrated Thanksgiving with a very nice dinner with my family with traditional food such as Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc..

Do you have a tradition similar to ours in your country? I’d love to hear about it.

Best,
Jonathan

really i have learned a lot from your journal
having anger is not bad but the way you utilize it might be sa problem to other people that why many people cannot live with others due to anger is that they cannot control themselves thus why all problems happening now is due to anger eg murderer and many others

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.
