Najah Mohamed Siciid is a sixteen year old from Hargeisa, Somaliland. As an eleventh grader, this will be her third year at Abaarso School of Science and Technology. When asked if studying at Abaarso has changed her life, Najah says that the school has instilled a level of independence and discipline in her. At home, Najah is one of twelve children, but at Abaarso, she’s learned to live alone, while being a member of a supportive community. In the future, Najah wants to use these skills to reform Somaliland’s military. She’s particularly interested in changing societal perceptions of women in the military. She has twice been chosen as a proctor, one of the highest honors available to an Abaarso student.
