About

Veronica’s father has mental health problems and is mostly absent in the lives of his two wives and eleven children. Since her mother moved far away for work, Veronica and her other siblings live with their father’s second wife who supports the children by collecting and selling firewood in Monduli. However, she struggles to pay for expenses such as school fees. Veronica hopes to be able to finish secondary school and set a good example for her younger brother, who has just started at Orkeeswa in Pre-Form One.

Hi Veronica,
My name is Namnyaki I'm 16 years old a second child among 3 children in my family. I have different vision in my future, so much that even some times some people tell me its impossible but I always stick to what I want because I belive that nothing is ever difficult its all the mater of giving it a try and see how easy it is and there a saying says that try to fail but don't you ever fail to try.
So even you I will like to tell you that '' Don't you ever give up on any thing you want in life just put a lot of energy on it and make sure that you make it.'' And no mater how hard life will try to be with you just don't you ever let it see that you fear it by letting out your tears because it is just the beginning but sooner to be over.
I will like to hear something from you too because I belive humans are not equal in thinking and thoughts.
YOU SHALL ALWAYS BE THE BEST AND ABOVE EVERY THING
IN THIS LIFE WITH ALL GOD'S HELP.And don't forget that you are able and capable of do any thing because you are the best and no one is like you.
Hello TSF Sponsors!

This is Emma, the Scholarship Coordinator at Orkeeswa School, updating you on Veronica’s behalf. Veronica is about to finish her Form Five year at Orkeeswa and we are so proud of how she has grown and all that she has accomplished in her first year of A-Level.

In Form Five, in addition to working hard in their Advanced Level classes, Orkeeswa students step into bigger leadership roles on campus and often act as some of the main role models for younger students. I had a chance to sit down with Veronica and hear about how she has grown as a leader, and I wanted to share her thoughts with you.

"I think that I lead my fellow students in a positive way because, for example, when I meet a 6th grader, especially the ladies, I always try to help them understand how to be at school even with big responsibilities at home, and I give them advice. I think that I have learned leadership in Life Skills Class and through watching people like my mom. In Life Skills, I learned that if I have a problem, I should never give up and I don’t feel ashamed to ask advice from my older sisters at school.

I also learned leadership from my mom who always works so hard and acts to help her family. As a leader at school, I try to help others too. I especially like to educate my fellow students to help with academic performance. I really do not like it when people come to school every day but then they do not pass their exams. I want everyone to pass so that they continue to have opportunities for education, so I try to help if they do not understand, but I also try to advise them on how to study better so that they can help themselves."

Veronica has grown so much as a student and as a leader at Orkeeswa, and we are so proud to watch her step into Form Six very soon. Please join us in congratulating Veronica, and thank you for supporting her education!

With gratitude,

Emma

Hello Maggie, Rachel and TSF sponsors!

This is Lisa Heinert, Director of Scholarships at Veronica's School. I am writing on Veronica's behalf, as our internet access has been limited at school, making it hard for Veronica to post to her journal. Veronica is doing great and is eager to start Form Five (11th grade) next month. She just finished her community service project, which involved teaching and coaching at a local primary school for two months.

As she reflected on this experience and her future goals, Veronica was reminded of why she wants to study science. She said, "Girls should study science because it will help them in their future. When they are mothers, they will be able to understand their bodies and they won’t feel ashamed to go to the doctor if they have a problem. When you study science, you can do anything. You can become a doctor, a teacher, an accountant, a mother. You can do any job you want to do. People often say that girls shouldn’t do science because it is only a boy’s subject. But in my opinion, girls have just as high a thinking capacity. Anyone is able to do anything as long as they put in the effort to achieve their goals. If everyone thought this way, then they would encourage girls to study science."

I've also included a photo of Veronica in a recent science class. Thank you so much for your support!

Study hard. Grow. Be happy.
It's nice to meet you, Veronica! I hope this helps you keep working towards your goal of becoming a doctor:) Wishing you all the best!
Rachel

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.
