Greetings Kathule!
I'm excited to hear you are able to go back to school. I trust the Kenya Connect on-line classes have been helpful. I encourage you to stay focused at school and to work hard. It's always important to keep reading books outside of school too. It will help your reading fluency and comprehension. Did you know that kids who read more score higher on exams?

Today is is raining in Maryland and is quite chilly. Soon it will be Halloween which means children will dress up in costumes and knock on people's doors for "trick or treating." They hope to get a sweet treat! It will be a bit different this year with the pandemic.

Last weekend I went on 20 km bike ride through a beautiful park. It was along the Chesapeake Bay so we saw sailboats out on the water. It was quite lovely.

Good luck in school! I look forward to hearing from you again!

When I go back to school I am going to work smart towards achieving my goals since this is my last year in school.I liked the photo you had sent to me,thank you.Greet your mom. Happy to hear from you.Bye!Nice time.
Greetings Kathule!

It was so good to hear from you! I am glad you are safe during the pandemic and also reading books. It sounds like the story you read was quite good. Keep reading-- it will help with your schooling!

I am in the state of Vermont in the US which is in the Northeast. It's very beautiful here since the leaves are changing from green to red, yellow and orange since it is autumn. Soon they will fall off before the winter comes. In Vermont it snows a lot and is cold. Last weekend we went and saw some covered bridges which were built in the 1800s. They are really neat to see. I've attached a pic of me and my mom at one of the bridges.

Vermont is known for making maple syrup. It is a sweet liquid made from the sap of a maple tree. We put it on pancakes or in oatmeal. It's delicious. We even made maple ice-cream!

I am praying that schools will open again once it is safe. In the meantime keep reading and studying. It will help you be ready for when school opens again.

Take Care!
Sharon

Habari Kathule! It is good to hear from you. James had told me that schools are closed until January. That's really too bad. We are still waiting to see when schools will reopen in the US. The coronavirus is very bad here. I do hope you are using this time to read some books. Please borrow some from Kenya Connect. Reading and writing during this time will really help you be ready for when schools reopen. I read every day. Right now I'm reading a story about a family with a complicated history. I learn new things through the books I read.

It is summer here in Maryland. We have a small garden growing with tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and herbs. The tomatoes are almost ripe. We also have a lot of flowers in our yard which the bees and butterflies love.

Thank you for writing. Keep reading! Sharon

Hello Kathule! I am glad you had a nice school break and that you are working hard in school. One thing you can do that will help a great deal is read! Reading will help improve your academic success and I know you can borrow books from the Learning Resource Center to read in the evenings. It will help you read faster, teach you new information, increase your vocabulary, and most importantly, will bring you to a new world. Right now I am reading a book about some young women from China who are in the U.S. during the 1920s. It's interesting to learn about their lives and what they are doing to be successful.

This past weekend I visited my daughter Emma, who is in University in New York state. She is studying government and women's issues. She also likes to hike and canoe.

Keep working hard, listen to your teachers, and READ! I would love to hear about a book you are reading.

Take good care,
Sharon "Mutanu"

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.
