Milaan Foundation envisions an inclusive and equal world where every girl has the knowledge, skills and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential. Over the last 12 years, Milaan has worked with more than 35,000 children and young people and advocated for safer and more inclusive spaces for them at various state and national platforms. The Milaan School specifically serves low income and lower cast families in a rural community in Uttar Pradesh, India.
At a very early age, Anita left her studies due to her family's poor financial condition. She wanted to continue her studies however her family didn't allow Anita to join school again. After two years, she is back in school and is studying in class 5. She is 13 year old and lives with her joint family. Her father is a laborer. Anita aims to be a teacher and enjoys playing kabbadi.

Harshita's father is a farmer and her mother a home-maker. She has four siblings; one brother, and three sisters. She used to attend a Private school in her village. However, when she passed her 5th class, the school closed down, compelling her to discontinue her education for a year. Harshita's parents also could not afford to enroll her to other schools as they are financially very weak. Now that she is part of Milaan's Swaachna Learning and Resource Center, Harshita is more than happy to study. She aspires to be an Officer in the Indian Army because she wants to do something for her nation and her family. She wants to make her parents proud of her.

Meera lives with her parents and four siblings. She is not a regular student because she is dealing with health issues. Her hobbies include playing Antakshari and watching movies. She wants to complete her studies first, then she will think about her career. Meera is a drop out girl. Her father has a small land for farming. So he couldn't pay her fees. After one year she took admission in SLRC under Swabhiman program. She didn't cover regular class course so she started study in remedial class.

Preeti is studying in class 6th at SLRC under swabhiman program. She is good in art. She wants to learn stitching and want to be a tailor. She is eldest in her seven siblings. She has participated in art and craft competition.

Hello, I am Nidhi and I enjoy coming to school. I am lucky that my parents support me in my studies. My hobbies are playing cricket, football and listening music. Someday I want to be a tailor.

Prema has experienced financial hardship that has kept her from being able to attend school. As such, she values her education and enjoys when she can come to school. She enjoys spreading awareness of the importance of education in her community. In her free time she likes to help her mother with household chores. Someday Prema hopes to become a teacher.
