About

Kumari writes: "My name is Kumari Magar. I live in Bhaktapur, Nepal at the New Youth Children Development Society. I have lived here since I was 8 years old and I am now 18. I don't remember much before coming to NYCDS but I have two younger brothers who also live here. There are children at NYCDS and they have been my family for the past 10 years. "Most of the children are much younger than me and I have many jobs and help look after them when I am not studying. Experience helping to look after so many children means when I grow up I want to be a social worker and continue to help poor people in my whole life if I can. "I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful family here and would be extremely grateful for the opportunity that scholarship would give me in helping me to achieve my goals and to make a bright future of mind."

Dear Kumari, how are you? I stayed in the house in Bhaktapur with you and all the other kids for 2 weeks in 2010. That's a while ago, I hope you remember me. I sure remember you! You were so kind and you also gave me a bracelet that I still have and like a lot. We had a lot of fun.
I thought about the NCYDS a lot when the horrible news came about the earthquake. I really hope everybody is okay. Also I am happy to see that you are going to school, I hope all your dreams will come true! Greets to everyone! :) Best wishes for you all.
Namaste Molly, you are also so beautiful. You know I live with lots of my Nepali brothers and sisters and my dog. I love drawing and playing. My favourite subjects in school are Nepali and Social. Nowadays I have 3 months holidays and so I am learning a computer class.

Dear Cathy, Amy and Nknlk thank you so much for your messages of support.

I wish all my dreams come true even though it is had to reach them. One of my dreams is to help other people who need special help, especially orphans and those whose lives are hard and poor. I also wish to help other girls who face problems that make them to fail reach their dreams. The most difficult experience in my early life was when my father and my mother divorced. It was hard for me to decide which one I should live with, my mother or my father. I did not know what was the right way. The situation made my performance at school drop. Then my dad took me and my siblings and he tried his best to provide good care for us and ensure that we got education. When I was selected for secondary school in Morogoro, my father didn’t have enough money for my school expenses. He talked with the headmistress so I could stay at school while he raised the money. The headmistress was very understanding. I completed my O-level education there and now I am in A-levels at Iringa Girls Secondary School. I am proud of myself when I do something that is appreciated by people and when I make someone happy.

I am here since I was 7 years old. When I came here, I was a small child. I only know a little bit about my parents. My mother died when I was 6 years old and my father got another marriage. After that he left me and one of my uncles took me here. Since he left me here, no one came to see me. I still don't know where he is. Either he is alive or died. I am a very poor boy. I hope you will help me."
