About

With very meager income, her father finds it difficult to support the family. Being a farmer, his income is very inconsistent, earning between INR1000-2000 every month. There is no other earning member in the family. She has two brothers and three sisters. Her family has been through a very tough time when her brother, the eldest of the six children, had been falsely accused of burglary. He was put behind bars and his family is waiting for his release. She says she loves her brother and she can't wait for him to come home. Puja used to attend a Government run school but had to drop out after class 6 as her father felt that the quality of education provided was very poor. But when they came to know of the Swabhiman program run in Swarachna Learning and Resource center they registered her without any hesitation. She loves to hang around with her friends. Her favorite subject is Sanskrit and she wants to be a teacher because she feels it will earn her respect in her society along with a better future.

My early life was full of challenges. This forced me to start primary school when I was old, not because I wanted to but because my family was not aware of the importance of school. They did not even go to primary school. The income of my family is very low compared to others. They fail to pay for my school expenses and they depend just on a small farm that cannot sustain our school and home needs. Although there are some difficult situations I must struggle to overcome, I will pay back our society by passing examinations. This would be my happy moment.
