Her late mother was single and the sole breadwinner of the family but passed on in 2015. Mercy currently risks dropping out of school because there is no one to pay her school fees. Despite this challenge, Mercy is optimistic and very determined to complete her secondary education and become an electrical engineer in future. Hi Steve,

its since too long have written a journal to you. Have been working very smart since I did my exam and am waiting for my results. Its my hopes that I will pass very well. Thank you for supporting me in my education. I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy new year 2018.
Greetings Steve,
It is my hope that you are fine together with the family. It is long since we communicated but on my side I am fine and still working hard in my studies. My family is well too. I am happy to learn that you visited Kenya in October though I did not meet you. Hope you liked the adventure. You are correct! "Shamba" is the kiswahili word for garden. We are now at home for the December holiday until early January. At the end of the year we did an exam which I managed to score a mean grade of c+. During the holiday I will help at the "shamba" since it is at the onset of short rains. I will also work harder on books in revision to improve my performance. We shall also celebrate the Christmas and happy new year too. Do you celebrate this holidays in America?
Thanks you for supporting me in education. I wish you you a blessed Merry Christmas and happy new year 2017.
Good bye.

Fiona is the last born in a family of three. She lives with both her parents who are casual labourers. Her mother had a major surgery on her left hand in 2020. This made them sell part of their property to take care of the medical bills and thus reducing their income significantly and again making it very difficult for them to take care of the education bills of their children. Fiona drew her inspiration to pursue success from her Math teacher and she aspires to be a civil engineer to make contributions in the development of infrastructure in her village.
