About

William lives in a household of seven people: his mother and father, two elder sisters, aged 21 and 16, a younger brother, aged 8, his 75-year old grandmother and William himself, who is 13. His father has a job which pays the minimum wage. His mother sometimes earns money by preparing and selling food at a local school, and the eldest sister has recently also found occasional work. William is a bright and keen student and enjoys going to school. His favorite subject is science and at the moment his ambition is to continue studying and to become a doctor. When he’s not studying, William likes to play the guitar. He attends the guitar classes that the Condor Trust runs every Saturday, thanks to a donation from the charity Keys of Change.

This year was a challenge for me because it was my last at secondary school and I had to work hard to graduate. It was difficult becuase I had to learn a lot of things and as we are still studying virtually it was very difficult to understand some subjects. My main achievement was getting the best grade I've ever had and I feel very proud of it! Thank you.
Over the last few months I've learnt a lot of things, especially about how to use technology. My studies are going well, but I've found this way of studying virtually a bit difficult. My family situation is also problematic at times, because my parents don't have steady work. We are fine though, and continue to be healthy. Thank you.

It was 2009 when I started standard 1. I was very happy to start primary level. When my mother died, it was really painful to me. It is a gap which will never be filled in my heart. After the funeral, I continued my studies. I am thankful I completed the term and passed the exam to standard 2. When I was in class 2, my father was my hope but after my mother's death, he changed and did not take care of me. Instead I was raised by my relatives. In 2010, my father died too and I have lived with my grandmother ever since. I was my parents' only child. Because of these challenges, I have learned that education is the best of all worldly things, better than money which gets used up. Education is the best heritage. I will never give up the chance for education. I really appreciate being selected as a scholarship beneficiary of The School Fund. I will work hard, very hard, to achieve my dream and help less fortunate people

My dream is to become an accountant and I will get there by studying hard. The moment that I felt proud of myself is when I learned that I passed the Standard 7 National Exams. The happiest moment in my life is when I was selected by the Ebenezer Seminary for my secondary school education. The most difficult experience I had is the death of my my best friend. He died of malaria. Malaria is a disease that can be treated. My friend could be alive if he got proper medical treatment. I learn from his death that we need to help our poor friends with their basic needs. I plan to help the orphans to make sure they can reach their dreams as I will. I will also contribute some of my salary to help the disabled people after my dream comes true.

Carmen is one of our most dedicated students. She attends all of our events and meetings, and is eager to begin her studies. After graduating high school, she worked as a waitress in Puka Rumi, one of the best restaurants in town. Here, under the mentorship of renowned chef Alejo, she fell in love with the art of cooking and hopes to someday open her own restaurant. In her spare time, she is an athlete. Her favourite sport is volleyball, and she was the only female to compete in last year's Ollantaytambo weightlifting competition! She comes from a humble campesino (rural indigenous) family. Since her father passed away 16 years ago, she and her nine siblings have since been raised by her single mother.
