About

Vincent is a disciplined and intelligent boy. His dream to become an electrical engineer started early in life when he learnt the skills of radio repair from a neighbor. He developed great interest in repairing radios that had been thrown away. Out of his curiosity, he repaired his first broken radio for his uncle and it worked! Later he repaired yet another broken radio for his grandfather and it worked too! Vincent's good performance in school did not come on a silver platter. He was able to sacrifice his sleep by sleeping late and waking up very early to study. He also consulted his teachers much on subjects he felt he needed help. He believes that hard work pays. Vincent is the only son to his single mother. He currently lives with his grandparents. His grandfather has suffered stroke and has not been able to help provide for Vincent.

Hi,,,,
It was good to hear from you. The stay at home due to the pandemic had very many challenges which were hard to cope up with. People could not tolerate the new normal way of living. Schools were closed but thanks to Kenya connect. The organization allowed us to access online classes through the zoom meeting. They also allowed us to access the internet for more information and not forgetting they also provided two face masks for each and every student wich were reusable. The government however has decided the reopening for Form Four, Grade Four and Grade Eight Monday on date 12. Strict measures have been put in place to cub the spread of Covid-19 among the students country wide.. and ensure they are safe. I created awareness to my grandparents about the virus and made them informed in every information I heard to keep them safe.
As I go back to school I wish you a nice stay and also keep safe..
GoodBye... Much love from Vincent.
Byeee..
Hi Vincent,

Yes this pandemic is crazy, a very scary time in life. But you will remember this your whole life. You should journal about it because your kids will ask what it was like to live during this time in the future. My kids starting taking school online in April but stopped going to the School building on March 13th. They finished up this year in June 23rd, but online school was much easier than in the classroom. My youngest is going into her last year in High School and my two older kids are in University. The Universities are even going to stop taking the testing that students are reguired to do for admittence. My older two kids will be traveling back to their college in the Fall but will take some classes online and some in person with a mask on. My youngest daughter's school has not said if they are returning to the building or will be online again at home in the Fall (September). Right now in the US there is a 11% unemployment rate but the numbers are suppose to go higher with all the new people getting sick. We are finding in the hot States where people are going indoors to get cooled off, they are spreading the virus quicker. The milder weather States are doing ok, because we are staying outside as much as possible. We live in the mid atlantic part of the country, in the middle near the east coast, our weather is hot, but not too hot so we can stay outside a lot. We have a small vegetable garden but not enough vegetables to feed us, so we are buying from local farms.

Right now we have 3 dogs, so they keep us busy.

I hope you are not working still so hard, I am sure you have a lot of responsibilities. Tell your grandparents, we said hello.

Take care Vincent and stay healthy. All my best, Laura

Fiona is the last born in a family of three. She lives with both her parents who are casual labourers. Her mother had a major surgery on her left hand in 2020. This made them sell part of their property to take care of the medical bills and thus reducing their income significantly and again making it very difficult for them to take care of the education bills of their children. Fiona drew her inspiration to pursue success from her Math teacher and she aspires to be a civil engineer to make contributions in the development of infrastructure in her village.
