About

Selpa's father is a cane cutter for the sugar factory. Her mother is a house wife. Among her seven siblings four have dropped out because they could not afford the school fees and supplies. During her primary school, Selpa was at home regularly as her parents struggled to raise the small fees demanded by the school. She also lacked stationery and used to do without lunch. Now Selpa's tuition, supplies and food are paid by a scholarship.

Hi,

I would like to thank the Wema community for the help during this very difficult year 2020. Thank you all the sponsors that have enabled us to remain in school and read well. We were using the school library well and this enabled us to improve in exams. Even though Corona virus disease has invaded our country and affected us in so many ways, we have tried to abide by the guidelines given by the ministry of health and to stay safe.

Selpa
I thank the WEMA Community and the Highway Fraternity at large for helping me to pursue my study.

Studying at Highway Highway Academy has not only improved my grades but also favored my health.

We have a School library that has helped me to improve in my studies. It has made me to read novels and storybooks like Blood Red Road, Moses In ‘The Ghost and Dust lands.’

Teachers here are great. For they pay attention to my needs and help me pass my exams. The school has provided enough materials for learning that has helped me to work hard in order to achieve my goal of being a medical doctor. My favorite subjects are Biology, Kiswahili, English and History.

I also like playing football, netball and singing in the School Choir. I pray for the WEMA Fraternity to be blessed and continue having the spirits of helping other people.

Fiona is the last born in a family of three. She lives with both her parents who are casual labourers. Her mother had a major surgery on her left hand in 2020. This made them sell part of their property to take care of the medical bills and thus reducing their income significantly and again making it very difficult for them to take care of the education bills of their children. Fiona drew her inspiration to pursue success from her Math teacher and she aspires to be a civil engineer to make contributions in the development of infrastructure in her village.
