About

Phanie's father died when she was ten years old due to brain cancer. Her mum runs a thrift shop where she sells second hand clothes. Her sisters works as a waiter in a hotel and uses whatever she earns to pay her own fees at the college where she is taking a degree in education. Her younger brother is in primary school. When Phanice was in primary school, she spent a lot of time out of school waiting for her parents to find some money to pay for her exam fees. Her life has changed now that she has been provided with enough books to read and also no longer misses class. "I thank Wema very much for the great impact they have had on my life and also the great teachers at this place and I am confident i will achieve an A after my four years here." -Phanice.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for supporting my education. I am happy to be in school after the extraordinary break. Covid19 has brought an enormous challenge to my family. However, I was allowed to live at the school and provided with meals and shelter. My family was also given some bread to sustain them. I am really grateful to have people who care for me very much. I am looking forward to next year being better than this year.

Phanice
The First year of high school has been one of the best years in my life. Am very much grateful to the Wema Community for this chance I have been granted to acquire quality of education for I know not everyone comes by this opportunity. It’s my promise that I am and always will try my best to realize the absolute best of this privilege that you have granted me, Thank you.

I would like to be surgeon in future. I love reading novels which have been provided for by the school in a bigger library which affords me with a quiet and conducive space for reading the vast amount of materials it has.

I like dancing as it also keeps me fit and hope to explore dancing in future as a fun experience.

I hope for your continued support in my education and in future when I'm able to get on my feet I hope to give back to this community.

Fiona is the last born in a family of three. She lives with both her parents who are casual labourers. Her mother had a major surgery on her left hand in 2020. This made them sell part of their property to take care of the medical bills and thus reducing their income significantly and again making it very difficult for them to take care of the education bills of their children. Fiona drew her inspiration to pursue success from her Math teacher and she aspires to be a civil engineer to make contributions in the development of infrastructure in her village.
