Joseph's father died in 2008 when he was only 7 years old. Joseph and his siblings went to live with their granny who, till her death in 2015, cared for them. Joseph's eldest sibling got a scholarship from Kenya Commercial bank who sponsored him in high school and are still sponsoring him at college where he is taking a diploma. His elder sister has just completed high school and was admitted to college, but there is still uncertainty whether they will be able to afford the tuition. Joseph had problems raising the fees required at the public primary school. Now that he has a scholarship to attend secondary school, he is studying comfortably and he does not need to worry about being sent home do to lack of school fees. He would like to get a good grade that will help him get a well-paying job. "Wema has helped me so much and now I am working towards my dream of becoming an engineer. I am so proud to be part of Wema." -Joseph.

I thank TSF for the sponsorship that they granted me. I also thank our teacher for support in our learning.

We had prepared well for our exams but due to the outbreak of Covid 19 went back home. It was a big challenge on my part because I was not able to access the online learning that the school organized during the long break. My family could not afford anything to enable me to learn like my classmates.

I thank God for enabling us back to school. I am trying my best to achieve my dream. I want to get good results to enable me to join a good university.

In Form One I have maintain a perfect score in class being among the top five students in our very competitive class. I have further represented our school in soccer competitions in which we excelled.

I thank God, the management of Highway Academy and the Wema Community for affording me this chance to pursue high school education.

Since I joined this school not only have my academics been boosted but I'm also better morally. I have been working hard since I joined this school as I'm striving towards my dreams of becoming a surgeon. I am working hard to maintain my score and always add on my grades.

I love visiting the school library during my free time to read mystery novels. I also enjoy playing football, swimming and watching movies.

I would like to wish God's blessings on you all and pray for your continued support. Thank you.

Her loving grandparents sent her to Beyond Fistula due to concerns for her safety, and she has now happily adjusted to life here. The older women at Beyond Fistula are like her big sisters, and she loves her new 'family', as well as the opportunity to pursue her education.

    Kelvin is a young student whose father has abandoned him, his brother, and his mother. She had an obstetric fistula from giving birth that made it very difficult for her to work. Kelvin is close with his grandparents but his mother struggles to keep the family housed and there are days they only have one meal. He wants to succeed in school along with his brother.

    Fiona is the last born in a family of three. She lives with both her parents who are casual labourers. Her mother had a major surgery on her left hand in 2020. This made them sell part of their property to take care of the medical bills and thus reducing their income significantly and again making it very difficult for them to take care of the education bills of their children. Fiona drew her inspiration to pursue success from her Math teacher and she aspires to be a civil engineer to make contributions in the development of infrastructure in her village.
