About

James has been under the care of his elder brother after the death of his father in 1997. His mother lives in the countryside with the younger siblings. Being a teacher at an informal primary school in Kibera, James' brother struggles to raise school fees for him owing to the fact that he has a young family with two kids to provide for. This situation puts James' future in school in the balance since his brother has already stated that if the load gets too heavy for him then he will have no option but to stop paying his younger brother's fees. Having James on this platform is ensuring his continued stay in school and securing his otherwise bright future in the academic circle.

Hello Aziza,
I am happy to hear from you and also your interest in knowing more about me. I am form four student and I will be finishing my high school this year. I learn in a boarding school and I live with my mother whenever the school closes. I also love reading. I grew up near the shores of Lake Victoria and I learnt how to swim at a very tender age. I am the last born in a family of seven children.

Hi Glenys,
Am so sorry I had to reply this late. I was not able to access internet until now. That is a wonderful family you have there. I know how grandparents are fond of their grandchildren. You must be a proud grandparent.
Anyway, about what I love in school, erh..... i love the wonderful environment/climate around my school. It just makes learning a pleasing experience. Nothing specific makes me nervous except for when am expecting the results of any kind of test, academic or any other. What is your proudest moment with you family?
Happy 2015!
Say hi to your family and receive my love too.
Dear James We wanted to write to say we love your picture - you look like you laugh a lot! We are a family from London - grandmother Glenys, daughter Diana and grandchildren George (8) who likes roller coasters, Lara (6) who likes Art and Mae (3) who likes climbing everywhere. We'd love to know what you love doing at school, what makes you nervous at school and a bit about you! Only if you have the time. Much love from London x
.....And another one
here is another picture of me at workshop
Hello Jaclyn,
I am currently taking eight subject which I hope to be examined on in my final year in high school next year. It is these subjects and the mean score I will score that will inform me on the best choice for my degree course.
I recently attended a workshop and we learnt a lot about career choice, public speaking, Decision making and other very useful information. The workshop was so exciting and it gave me lots of insights in terms of what to expect after my time in high school. Please see some of the photos i took at workshop.
Hi James,

Thanks for writing me back! It is great that you learned more about Brown University! I am also glad that you have adjusted to your new school. What are you studying this term? Is your term almost over?

Keep in touch,
Jaclyn
Hello Tara,
I am enjoying my time in school. Things are quite okay except for the dismal performance I had in Mathematics last academic term. Now that you work with the dormitories where students live, I guess you interact with students a lot. The people who work with us in the dormitories are very harsh. I understand them because dealing with students at times can be very difficult. We give them hard moments at times.
Thank you Tara for helping me stay in school. It means a lot to me. I work hard every day to make sure that the sacrifice you make to keep me in school is not in vain. I am optimistic I will achieve my goals and will make you proud to be associated with me. THANK YOU SO MUCH..
Best of luck in all your endeavors.

James.
Hi Jaclyn,
I am enjoying my studies in my new school. I transferred from my previous school and joined a better school. At first things were tough but now I have learnt to cope with it. I enjoy doing the sciences and I hope to pursue a science related course in future.
I have heard about Brown University. I hear it is one of the best in the US. We were shown brochures of the university and I fell in love with. I also love Amherst and I hope to study in either of them in future.
Again, thank you for your concerns about me and my education. BE BLESSED.
Best!

James
Hi James! I hope this helps you stay in school. What do you like most about school? What is the hardest subject you have this year?
I liked history and math was hard for me when I was young. I went to college and now work with the dormitories where students live.
Good luck and I will be thinking of you, Ms. Tara
Hi James,

My name is Jaclyn, and I'm a student at Brown University who works with the School Fund. I hope you are enjoying your classes this year so far. What are some of your favorite subjects? I study politics and sociology.

I noticed from your profile that you would like to become a doctor. That's awesome! Keep working hard to achieve your goal.

Feel free to write me back on this journal!

Jaclyn
Hi Timothy,
So glad you Jeff and Ken. Do you know that Ken is now a member of the National Assembly in Kenya? We are glad since he has been pushing so hard for issues and motions that education related. We will be having a mid-term break in a few weeks time. Best of all luck in your work.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
