About

Caroline is the first-born child in a family of five. Before joining St. Pius Kaitha secondary school she was in Kaitha primary school were she performed very well. She is well behaved and focused in her education. Her father works as a watchman in the school and from his meager earnings he pays for school fees for Caroline and her sister who is in the same school and also provides for the family daily needs. The burden of paying school fees for the two daughters is overwhelming for him and most times they are sent home for school fees. Nevertheless, Caroline is determined to achieve her dream. To her education is the only hope of breaking the vicious circle of poverty.

Hi Mutanu, hope you are fine together with your family since we met. We are resuming back to school and I am fully working hard determining to excel. I am using revision materials to help me to get better grades. After school I would like to visit your place the way you do visit Kenya and I will be very happy. During midbreak I will be able to share more with you.

I thank you so much for paying my school fees may God bless you and wishing you all the best. Pass my warm regards to your family.

Caroline---

So glad to hear you were able to read over break and that you are starting your second term. I am sure you will be happy to see your friends. It is spring here in Maryland and all the trees and flowers are blooming. It's very pretty and very green. Yesterday my husband planted a garden with beetroot, peppers, and carrots. We will probably plant tomatoes too. I was at Arundel Secondary School last week and they did a special field day as a fundraiser for Kenya Connect. It was a fun day. Thanks for writing and good luck with the second term! Your friend, Mutanu

So happy to hear from you! I am happy to hear that the rains have come to Kenya. I pray for a good rainfall so the crops grow well this year. Since you are on break, ask James if you can borrow a couple of books to read. My daughters are on their spring break--- they only have one week off. We are visiting the grandparents in Georgia, which is a state in the southern United States. We drove down and have been enjoying the beach. This morning my husband and I ran 18 kilometers. It was a bit hot and I was tired at the end. My daughters, Megan and Emma and my husband Mike are coming to Kenya this summer. Everyone is hoping to meet you. Well have a restful break. Mutanu
Hi Mutanu

Spring in your place sounds beautiful! Trees here have started putting on green after the dry period. I am happy to hear that you will be coming to Kenya. Its my hope that i will be able to meet you. I am still focused and working hard in class. wishing you all the best.

Hi Caroline! It was so good to hear from you. I am glad you were able to borrow books from the LRC. Hopefully you can borrow a fun story book too! Spring is starting to come to Maryland. The flowers are beginning to poke through the ground and the grass is starting to turn green. In the next month, our neighborhood will be filled with so many colors! I've also noticed that more birds have started to come back too! I am very excited since I will be coming to Kenya this summer with my two daughters and husband. We will have other people with us too. We are hoping to do some workshops at the LRC and in the schools. Hopefully I will see you then. Keep working hard in school--- and read as much as you can! I also want to wish you a very blessed Easter! Sharon (Mutanu)

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
