About

Diana is a confident and hard-working girl who completed primary school at Mbaikini primary school in 2012. Her father passed away on Diana's 12th birthday when she was just in the fifth grade and she was left under the care of her aging grandmother. Through support from well-wishers, Diana was able to complete primary education and score good grades in the national exam. Diana has a budding talent for leadership and served as a class prefect all through her primary education and was appointed the school head-girl on her final year in primary school. At the end of the 2015 Diana became pregnant and was forced to dropout to care for her child. After a healthy child was born, she has decided to return to school and hopes to one day become a doctor. Unfortunately her grandmother cannot raise the money needed to take Diana to school.

Hi Laura
It is long since I communicated to you but am doing well with my relatives. We have been out of school this term because of an ongoing teachers strike. The teachers are demanding a pay increase but the government says it does not have money. It’s so wonderful that your cousin's daughter is married to a Kenyan. How is everything in your place? Are the students in school?
Pass my warm greetings to your family members.
May God bless you

Lovely Diana.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Hi Diana,

This is the whole family in Las Vegas. We really did not love Las Vegas because it's so commercial, but we flew in and out of Las Vegas to Baltimore to get to the boat.

I had my cousin's daughter get married to a Kenyan this winter & my cousin took the whole family to the wedding. I loved to see all the people and the wedding traditions. It was a lovely event. I wish I could of gone. But my cousin's daughter is having another ceremony in Maryland shortly, so I will meet the family from Kenya & hear about their trip.

Take care Diana, keep me updated on your life & I look forward to hearing from you soon! Love you, Laura
Diana,

Oh no, I had a few typos in my note below. I mean it's too cold in winter here and nothing grows so it's brown.

Maggie, my oldest help drive the boat which was fun. She is learning to drive a car and will be getting her license soon to drive independently. She also is studying for her College Board exams which are coming up this year. They will help her get into a good college if she scores well. We still have to pay lots of money for college but at least the grades will determine how good of a college she will go to.

Attached is a picture of the Lake. The Lake is fed by the Colorado River and was damed 50 years ago to build up water so it could be sent to California and other States out west for drinking water. oxox's Laura
Hi Diana,

I hope you had a nice Winter. The folks that traveled to Kenya had a wonderful time and were all really impressed with your leadership skills. I hope you liked my gift, I am concerned as to whether the outfit fit you, I hope it wasn't too large or small. And I hope the necklace reminds you that we love you.

My kids are back at school even though it is early this year and still pretty hot. We had a great summer with a really cool vacation. We traveled across the country to the US southwest region. (We live in the mid-atlantic on the coast, so ti was pretty far away. We went to Utah which I believe is one of the most beautiful states with lots of amazing National park & scenery. It is dessert which is very different for us, since it rains a good amount on the east coast & we are always green except in the winter when it's too hot.

So I attached a picture of my three kids driving a boat that we stayed on for a whole week. We are barely on land and we cooked and slept on the boat on Lake Powell in Utah. It was wonderful fun! Then we climbed a few mountains and flew home through Las Vegas. It was nice to all spend time together.

I will send you a few more pictures. Take care, Laura
Hi, Aziza j
Thank you for your journal and beautiful photo. My name is Diana from Kenya. I'm 16 years old and I'm in form three. We are four in family that is 2 girls and 2 boys. My hobbies are reading, listening music and dancing. How old are you? How many are you in your family and what is your
hobby?
Here in Kenya, we cultivate and rare domestic animals. The weather is hot and dry so it is good for preparing our shambas for cultivation.

GOOD LUCK!!!
Diana k Mutinda.
hi my young,
my name is Aziza from Tanzania,
I would like to know you a little so may you please make a short introduction?
hope to hear back soon
BEST REGARDS TO ALL
Hi Laura,

I am excited to hear from you. We are currently on a mid term break and we shall resume back to school on Tuesday. It is my hope that you are doing fine together with the rest of your family. I am doing well and still working hard in school.

It is so sad that you will not make to come this summer. I wish it were possible but Gods time is the best and I will be looking forward to see you next summer.

How are the girls doing? I am wishing Maggy a wonderful mission trip.

About visiting America it is my dream that one day I will be able to come and see the beauty of your place. I trust that with God everything is possible. I hope I will be able to meet the group coming to Kenya this summer.

To join university in Kenya you also need to pass very well because the chances are limited and the competition is stiff. It is my goal to attain good grades to earn a place in the university. Those who are able to qualify get a loan from the government to continue their studies and those who do not get that chance have to pay for their own tuition and accommodation.

I Have seen the photo and it reminds me of grade seven. That is some years back. Thank you so much for posting it.

I am wishing you all best hoping to hear from you again once we close school.

With lots of Love
Diana
Hi Diana,

I was hoping to go to Kenya this summer, and bring Maggie my oldest daughter but it didn't work out for us this year. I am helping the folks going to Kenya this summer get ready. It does make me sad not to go, but I will follow their trip and see their pictures when they come home. I think another awesome photographer is coming so I will love to see her work when she comes home. I would love to see you though. Maggie is going on a mission trip to Alabama this summer with the church. I think they are helping folks in need.

The program that I wanted to work through that would help me bring you to the US to go to school was an organization that helps only Muslin Kenyan's to come over, not Christians.. So I will continue to search for an organization to bring you over, but if not I will try and come next summer.

I hope that you can go to University when you graduate, you are such a bright hard working girl. That is great that if you get good grades, you can go to school for free. College in the US is so expensive. In the US, looks of kids go to University, but their parents have to work extra hard to afford it. There are not so many jobs anymore in the US that you can do without a College degree.

I hope all is well with you. I attached a picture that someone else took when we were in Kenya of you. You are so beautiful.

All our love, Laura
Hallo Monica,

Thanks so much for your post. I am happy to be your friend. Thank you so much for the pictures. Are these your friends? Which country do you come from? How is school? I am doing well in school. We have opened school after a three week vacation. We will be in school for the next three months. I love school so much and I know with good education the future is always bright.

I love singing and dancing and I participate in music festivals. Hope you work hard in school.

Diana
Dear Laura,

I am always happy to read a journal from you. Thank you so much for the photos. They are pretty and I enjoyed looking at them. I am happy to know the two daughters of your brother. They are so cute! Would you plan to come with them to Kenya next time? I am also excited to know that my sisters maggie and Lily and my brother Liam are doing well. I Love you all.

I knew about your birthday on the last post. You actually posted it on your birthday. My birthday is July 31st. Although I will be in school I will remember the day. I will be turning 16.

I had a wonderful April holiday. I had the opportunity to meet with friends from other schools. We had time to discuss on various challenging topics on academics.

I would like to join university once I complete my high school education. To join university in Kenya one has to perform very well because the slots are limited. Many children who do not perform very well in final exams loose the chance to be supported by the government in college level and therefore they have to pay their own fees in college. For those unable to pay, they mis the chance to continue with their studies. I am working hard in school to make sure I attain good grades.

We have not been able to do geocaching lately but I hope we might have it during August holiday. Geocaching is fun and I usually enjoy it so much.

I am wishing you God's blessings as you continue with your daily activities.

with lots of love.
Diana

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
