About

Sanga lives with his mother, 4 sisters, 2 brothers and one cousin. Sanga's father passed away in 2011 and his mother does not work. His oldest sister works as a maid to bring in a little money for the family. Sanga lives just outside N'gomebe in a village style house made out of hand made mud bricks. His house has no electricity, and no running water, so his mother and sisters fetch water daily for the family. Sanga is a good student. He recently passed his 7th grade examinations with Zambian standard of an A+ in all subjects. Sanga says he likes school because it will give him a good future and he has the best chance at providing for his family. He spends more time studying than playing with his friends because he knows how important his education is.

Sanga,
Great to hear from you my friend. I am glad that you are doing well and keeping up in your studies. Are there any specific topics that you enjoy studying? I would be interested to hear more about what you find to be exciting in and out of school. Who knows, maybe we have some passions in common?

As for the weather, I can guarantee that you don't want the weather we are experiencing in Chicago. It is brutally cold and snowy. I think that I would take the Lusaka weather over Chicago at this point.

Take Care,
Jack
Hi to all my sponsors and friends,

My first greeting goes to my one and only Mama Linda. I am happy that you , Mama, read the letter and were proud of it. For that I am grateful.

I am also saying Hi to Jack, Christopher and Becca. My schooling is going well and I am enjoying it. The weather here is only a little bit of sun with colds, so there are very few people walking about on the street. I admire the cool weather you are having.

I am really thankful for all of you in Connecticut. How is everyone in the group? Everyone here is happier from all the hard work of Mama Linda. We are very grateful as pupils and our teacher is as well. We miss you Mama Linda!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE IN CONNECTICUT.

From Sanga

God Bless You All!!
Sanga, Thank you so much for writing such a nice letter! So informative and well written.
I am so proud that you finished well on your exams! Great job!
We are doing fine here in Connecticut although it is very very cold. We have snow on the ground and it is so
cold that the lake where I live is completely frozen and we can skate on it. Crazy, it is not every year that the lake freezes so that gives you an idea of how cold it is!
I look forward to seeing you when I get to Chikumbuso in April. All the best and give my greetings to everyone there.
Mama Linda
Sending a hello to all my sponsors,

For some of you it has been a long time since I wrote, and for others we are just meeting for the first time. I am doing just fine together with my family. I really want to thank you for your sponsorship. I am working had in school so that you will be proud. I would like to say Hi to Mamma Linda, the hard working woman that formed Chikumbuso.

We opened our school on the 13th of January 2014. So far school is going well for me. I really enjoy it more than anything because I aim to become a doctor and I must finish school to get there. My grade eight exams were enjoyable to me because I studied a lot. I came in the 5th position in class out of 62 pupils. I passed all the subjects, and I think the year 2014 is going to be a good year for me.

Happy new year to you Jack, Shannon, Becca, Christopher, Melanie, Mamma Linda, and the Chikumbuso club at East Lyme High school. We miss you mamma Linda!! Continue with your hard work of helping those who are in need. We really appreciate what you are doing.

The weather here in Zambia is cool. How about there? We celebrated Christmas and the New Year here. How do you celebrate those in the USA?

Wishing you a Happy New Year! Thank you for all that you do.

Sanga
Greetings Sanga,
I hope that all is well my friend. How is school? Are you enjoying the year so far?

Talk soon,
Jack
Hello Sanga!

Greetings from East Lyme High School in the state of Connecticut, USA! We are so excited to be your sponsor (Mamma Linda deposited money raised by our Chikumbuso Club last school year on matching day). We have started a Chikumbuso Club at our school to raise money and awareness to assist the Chikumbuso community. My students will be contacting you to find about how you are doing in school and what life is like where you live! We are so excited to be in touch! I wish you the best of luck in school! Dream big!

Best Wishes,
Shannon Saglio
Hi Jack, Becca and Christopher,

I am glad to have three friends in America, the country that I admire. I am greeting your families and friends. I am glad that I have so many new friends in America!

It is great to hear that you are a teacher Becca, that is good! Continue, it is a blessing from God that you are educating people so that they can become successful like you and go to University.

I wish to do the same as you Becca. I will be working hard. We have already started our end of term two tests. The exams are hard but not every subject. The most difficult ones are the two subjects that I don't like: geography and civics .

I believe I will earn a better position in my class after I get the results from my exams. My family is proud of you for helping orphans and widows. Also my friends and teachers are appreciating you for all of your help.

May God bless you!

Yours faithfully,

Sanga Mwanza

Hi Sanga, I'm very impressed that you are an A+ student. Keep up the good work.
Greetings Sanga,
I am well, my friend. I am happy to hear that you had a nice Easter holiday. For Easter I went to my home on the other side of Michigan and enjoyed church with my family and friends. The weather was nice and we are finally starting to move from winter into spring, so I am happy.

So you have examinations? What topics are you studying? I am interested to know what you are learning.

Good luck on your tests and keep in touch!

Sincerely,
Jack
Hi Jack,

I hope you are fine. As for me, I'm fine and I am enjoying the holidays. I'm busy studying because we are about to write our end of term one examinations. I have been studying a lot. After studying I play football with my friends. Before playing I have to work in the field.

I enjoy playing football and being an athlete. How is your family and your friends? My mother she is greeting you and your family.

Durring the holidays on Friday I went to sleep overnight at my relatives. Then on Sunday we went to church for Easter. We have Easter Monday off, which is when I wrote you this letter. What about you? What did you do during this holiday?

One thing that makes me sad is when our national team Chipolopolo had a draw on the final game.

Thanks to you Jack and your family.

May god be with you wherever you are.

Zikomo Kwambili

Mulungu Adalisi- God Bless you all

Hi Jack,

I received the letter from you, it is so nice and interesting to read it. It has made me glad and I appreciate the letter I received very much. It has made my family happy to have a letter from outside the country like the USA, and to have a friend like you Jack. It was the letter of the day!

I would like to greet all your relatives and friends. As for my family and friends, we are all fine.

I am enjoying school activities like mathematics club. I participated in the athletics competition which we had on the 2nd of March, 2013. It was the entire schools sport competition and it took place at munali High School. Our school came in 2nd place out of 13 schools.

I want to be more involved in school activities. We will begin our examinations this month, and I am ready for it.

Thank You, Zikomo Kwambili
God Bless you!

Sanga

Good luck and keep me updated with your studies!

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
