About

Teddy lives in Ng'ombe with his 25 year old cousin. His mother moved to the other side of Lusaka with his sisters to a more affordable area. They left Teddy with his cousin so that he could stay in school and because his mother couldn't afford a house big enough for him and his sisters. Teddy doesn't get to visit his mother and sisters often, and he misses them terribly. His cousin provides for him by working as a cleaner at a local grocery store. Teddys favorite thing to do is play futbol on the weekend with his team, the Super Eagles. Teddy likes school every much because it teaches him to be a good and successful person. Teddy understands how big of an impact being sponsored would have on his life. It would mean he could stay in school and he would have all the materials he needs to support his education. Teddy achieved the 2nd position in his class at Ng'ombe PTA school.

Hi Teddy,

Greetings from San Francisco. My wife Heather and I love your journal entries - you're a good writer!

Hope your all is going well with your family, with school, and the Super Eagles. We had the chance to visit Zambia briefly on our honeymoon, and would love to do so again.

It's past midnight here, so apologies for the short note. All the best,

Bobby and Heather
Hello Teddy!

Greetings from East Lyme High School in the state of Connecticut, USA! We are so excited to be your sponsor (Mamma Linda deposited money raised by our Chikumbuso Club last school year on matching day). We have started a Chikumbuso Club at our school to raise money and awareness to assist the Chikumbuso community. My students will be contacting you to find about how you are doing in school and what life is like where you live! We are so excited to be in touch! I wish you the best of luck in school! Dream big! We are having a fundraiser soon, so hopefully we can help you with your funds before your deadline!

Best Wishes,
Mrs. Saglio

Dear Amy,

How are you doing? As for me, I am doing fine. I am happy because my cousin has been blessed with a baby girl and also because this month is the month of my birthday! My birthday took place last week on Saturday the 7th of September. Also this week on Friday I will be collecting my results from last terms examinations. Although I can't promise that I will be in first or second position in my class, I feel that I did really well this term. I feel I did even better than last term, and that I can promise!

The only sad news for me and for the whole country of Zambia is that the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Mr Kennedy M. Sakeni has died. The President declared 3 days of mourning in all of Zambia.

Amy, if you could send me some photos of you and your family I would love to see them. I would love to know what it looks like where you are from.

Have a wonderful September.

Dear Mama Linda,

Great greetings to you and your family at large. I also want to say thank you to you for everything you have done for me Mama.

I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was in rags and you gave me clothes to dress in. I was bare footed and you gave me shoes to wear. The most important thing is that I was uneducated and you gave me an education at Chikumbuso.

Education is not an easy thing to find in Zambia. It is not easy in Zambia to send a child to school, especially orphans and vulnerable children like me, and all the children at Chikumbuso School.

I have been reading a book published in Zambia by UNICEF called "Children Orphaned by AIDS." It shows how Zambia is not succeeding in providing free primary education for children with high national poverty rates. Parents and guardians are finding it harder and harder to pay school fees, uniform and book costs which are needed to send their children to government schools. Because of you Mama, I am enrolled in school, and I have the chance to have an education. Thank you a lot Mama Linda for everything you have done, and are still doing for me.

Teddy
Firstly I would like to thank all of my sponsors for the help you have given me. It means so much to know that there are people in the USA that are helping me to go to school.

I would like to share with you how I found myself at Chikumbuso:

I was born in the Western Province of Zambia which is one of the poorest provinces in Zambia. I grew up in that place. When I was about 3 or 4 years old, my parents got divorced and from that time my father left the village and he came to Lusaka. By that time my sister was only a baby. We didn't know our dad because I was only a kid when he left us. So I grew up with only my mothers love. With Mum, life was not that easy. It was so tough in such a way that I even though that our father has abandoned us because he could not support us. Me and my sister used to put my mom under pressure. I wanted to know my dad, and his identity.

Because we used to stay without food the whole day, mother could not find the money to buy food for the family and also could not take me to school because she could not afford to pay the school fees. That is when my mum decided to send me to my father in Lusaka so that he may help me with school, and so that I could know him. That's when I also left the village and came to Lusaka. When I came I found that my father had already married another wife, and both of them were drinkers of alcohol. None of them could think about me, my future, and my well being. I always asked my father to take me to school but he never paid any attention to me. He only paid full attention to his beer and his stuff. So I was growing up without an education. During the school days I used to be lonely because all of my friends went to school. I was the only one left at home. My father and step-mother always spent all day at the drinking places and sometimes they would leave me without food. This used to hurt me a lot. I used to think that my dad doesn't love me and he hated me a lot. When I would see all of my friends early in the morning, carrying their bags and books to school, I would admire them. I would even cry when I saw my friend reading and writing.

Some years later my dad divorced his second wife and he married his third wife who he still lives with now. She never liked me at all because I was not her biological child. She used to say something which was affecting my brain. Somethings which I didn't like. Sometimes she would tell lies to my father about me and my dad would get upset and would beat me. I used to cry a lot and ask myself why this was happening to me? I was given all of the hard work to do because I was the one who stayed home all day.

Until one day, one of the Chikumbuso teachers who was my neighbor talked to me about Chikumbuso. His name is teacher Misheck. That is how I started also going to school, and that is how some of the work from home reduced. Since that day which I started school, I promised my mum that I will make sure that I do the best that I can and work very hard in school. So that one day, I can also take care of her just like she did with me. I promise that I will take care of my family at large and will not forget the children who are in the same condition. The children who are looking for people to support them in education. I want to help them as well.
Hey Teddy, How are you doing? So glad that you are enjoying school and doing so well. Thought I would help you along today as it is matching day and I always like to get more for my money! :) See you in November. Mama Linda
Dear Amy,

I wanted to let you know that I received my term one results on Friday. I did very well, especially in Maths and CTS. I am 3rd in my class, just after my two friends Aaron, and Patson. We have 31 students in our class at Ng'ombe PTA school.

Thank you for all that you do.

Teddy

Dear Amy,

Thank you for your love and kindness. For you being my sponsor is like magic to me.

I am a boy aged 15. I have both my parents. My mother is Elder Musobe and my father's name is Teddy S. Nosiku. I have five sisters and I am the only boy and the first born child in our family.

I live with my cousin. He is the one who is taking care of me. He is 26 years old. He doesn't have any children, and is not married at the moment. I am a boy who believes in God and in Jesus too. I go to church every Saturday and I am a Seventh Day Adventist Church member. The new thing is that I am going to be baptized on the 6th of April this year!

I am dreaming of becoming a pilot one day in the future. I hope God will add his blessings in my future dreams.

Thank you very much for your support and sponsorship. In my life you are like an angle which God has sent to come into my life and help me. Thank you once again.

May God bless you,

Teddy

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
