About

Aaron lives with both his parents, his siblings and his one nephew. He now lives in Kabanana, just outside Ng'obe in a house made of mud with an iron roof. His house does not have electricity, or running water. Aaron helps out by fetching two 20 liter jugs of water for drinking, and three jugs for bathing and washing every morning, including washing plates and sweeping. His mother sells tomatoes and onions in the compound, but she is the only one bringing in money to their family. Aaron likes to read and play soccer in his spare time. Aaron likes school very much because learning new things brings him joy. He was inspired to become a doctor when his mom got very sick with Malaria, so he studies hard so he can one day help sick people. Aaron says that having a sponsor gives him hope that he will be able to finish school and reach his dreams. Aaron is third in his class at Ng'ombe PTA School.

Dear Teacher Chrissy,

How are you and your family? How is work in Spain? How far have you gone learning Spanish? Can you teach me the following things in Spanish: How are you? I miss you, I love you , and good morning.

Concerning school, school is going well and I am one of the school prefects. the duties of a prefect is as follows: leading by example, helping the teachers with class work ex: making the class silent, cleaning, and help to prevent bullying. I always tell my friends and class mates that we are all equal, don't be afraid of any one. The only thing that makes us to be wise is by standing and accepting what you are and setting goals for each and everything. Now my new favorite subjects are science, math, religious education, and social studies. I do well in science and maths. Here in Zambia the school syllabus has changed. We are no longer learning civics, geography, and history in grade eight. Instead of this they have combined three subnets to form social studies. At first I was puzzled, but now I think it's just cool.

Thank you for the support you are offering me. I have realized who I am and why school is so important in my life. School is a very special key which will open the doors of my future.

Thank you very much. May our creator God really bless you and your family.

Dear Patrick and Carol,

Hi! How are you and your family? As for me I'm doing fine. It has been a long time since I have written to you or heard from you. I would like to let you know that we have opened school for the new year. We started on the 13th. I received my results from my Grade 7 exams and I did very well in all the subjects. I have now started grade 8, and I am learning new things.

Thank you for your support.
God bless you

Aaron
Chrissy, Hi! Happy New Year!

It has been a long time since I have written and heard from you. How are you and your family? How is work? Are you still in Spain? I won't stop saying thanks to you and to God. I never expected that I can have my bike. Thank you so so much, may God bless you more and your family.

Concerning school we have opened school on the 13th and the results are out. I have tried really hard, and I scored a 787/1000 marks on my exams. That makes me number three in my class! I have done well in all the subjects. I am now in grade 8 learning new subjects and I am very happy. Guess what? The distance I used to cover in 1 hr and 30 minutes, I am now covering it in just 50 minutes! I wake up every day now at 5:30, start off at 6;00 and arrive at school by 6:50.

Greet your father, mother, sister, brother, grandpa, grandma, and friends etc. for me!

Thank you! Have a great day!

Aaron
Hi Aaron!!

Carly sent me your last letter through e-mail, I was very happy to get it! How are you doing? Did you get your school results yet? I hope you are enjoying the time off and helping your family.

I'm so glad to hear that you are reading the books of ember! How do you like them? I read all of the books and I really enjoyed them. They are so exciting and interesting! And I'm happy you finally received the bike! I had wanted to give it to you since I met you back in July, so it was great news when Carly told me you had it. She also sent me some pictures and videos :) I hope you put it to good use!

Now I am living in Spain and it is a lot of fun, but hard work because I am trying to learn the language. I am also teaching English to students. I am still learning to speak and understand Spanish, so at times it can be very difficult! But I know I have to keep trying and each day I get a little bit better.

I hope all is well with you and your family. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Love,

Chrissy
Hello Aaron!

Greetings from East Lyme High School in the state of Connecticut, USA! We are so excited to be your sponsor (Mamma Linda deposited money raised by our Chikumbuso Club last school year on matching day). We have started a Chikumbuso Club at our school to raise money and awareness to assist the Chikumbuso community. My students will be contacting you to find about how you are doing in school and what life is like where you live! We are so excited to be in touch! I wish you the best of luck in school! Dream big!

Best Wishes,
Shannon Saglio
Hi Aaron!

How are you doing? I think it is great that you have learned many valuable lessons from the bible, and I know these will help you throughout your life. Are you ready for your exam on the 14th of October? I'm sure you will do great, you are such a hard worker and so smart!

Now I am in Spain, I have been here for about a month. I am teaching English to Spanish children, and I am also trying to learn Spanish. Learning a new language is difficult and at times frustrating, but I have to stay focused and determined. I will go back to the United States for a little in December to see my family for Christmas, and then I will come back to Spain. I miss my friends and family at home, but I am having a wonderful time here in Spain!

Have you finished the books that I gave you? Carly should be bringing you some more things that I left with her in the US. She will be back to Zambia in the next few days, so hopefully then you will get them!

I hope all is well with you and your family. Talk to you soon!

Love,

Chrissy

PS- I have attached a picture of us from when we met!
Dear Chrissy, Carol, and Patrick,

Hey! How are you and your families? As for me, I am doing great with my family. I would like to tell you that we have opened school this past Monday and I am anxious for the final last exam. We take it on the 14th of October, and it will determine if I can go on to the next grade. I know I will do it as long as I work hard. In life I have learned many things through the Bible. It is a very nice book and it is where I get help when I am afraid, lonely or weak, or when i am doubting myself. I have learned self-control, to be humble, patient and to love.

1. Self- Control: When I am about to do something, I always think if the consequences will be good or bad:
a) Is it against my beliefs?
b) Will it hurt someone?
c) Will I regret it after I have done it?
d) How am I going to feel if someone did the same thing to me?

After I find these answers I will judge myself wether or not to do it.

2. To be humble: If my family, relatives, or friends say bad things about me, or want to fight me, I should always be quiet and ask for forgiveness even if I haven't done anything wrong.

3. To be patient: When something bad has happened to me, I always find out why it has happened. How has it started? How am I going to handle it, or prevent it from happening again?

Thank you for your support.
May our Lord be with you,

Aaron
Hi Aaron!

It was so great to get to know you while I was in Zambia! You are extremely caring and smart, and also a very hard worker. I was so impressed with all that you have done and I hope you continue to study hard.

Have you finished either of the books that I gave you? I'm so happy to see that Harriet Tubman's words inspired you. She was very determined to change her life for the better, just like you! Carly is coming to the US next month and I am going to give her some more books for you to read, along with a few other things.

How is school going? I am back in the US now but I am getting ready to move to Spain to teach English. I am excited but a little nervous because I cannot speak Spanish fluently, but hopefully I will learn! I am really hoping to return to Zambia again soon. I hope all is well with you and your family, God Bless!

Love,
Chrissy
Dear Patrick and Carol,

Hi, how are you and your families? As for me, I am doing fine. I am glad that you are sponsoring me. Thank you very much. I am 16 years old and I am doing grade 7 at N'gombe PTA school. My favorite sport is called Draft. It looks like a game of chase, and I like playing it in my free time. I also like to read in my free time.

At this moment we are now writing our end of term two tests. We close on the 9th of August for a one week holiday because we will be preparing for he final exams which are going to start on the 14th of October. My favorite subjects are: maths, English, science, religious education, and social and development studies. What are you both doing right now?

With Love,

Aaron

Thank you and have a nice day!!
Dear Teacher (Chrissy),

Hi! How was your trip? I hope it was fine. I am so happy that I have seen and talked to you. You are such a kind, friendly, and happy person. I promise you that I won't cease or stop going to school until I have finished my education and become just like you: living by yourself, finding things on our own, and helping those who are in need.

When I read the letter which you gave me I was sad that you were leaving, but anyway we have at least shared many things.

Those books that you gave me are just the books I was looking for. they gave me such a strong encouragement like Harriet Tubman said, "If you are afraid, keep on going; if you are tired, keep on going; if you are hungry, keep on going; if you want to test freedom, keep on going." Which means to me, if your desire is to be someone in life, just keep on going to school. In the end you will test the life you were desiring. Thank you! Have a nice day!!

Love,
Aaron

May our creator God richly bless you and your family!
Hi Aaron,

Hi Aaron,
How are you? My name is Patrick and I'm from California, I like basketball, photography and hiking. How about yourself? Big question, if you could be anything in what would you be?

Patrick
Hi Aaron,

First of all, congratulations on being second in your class! That is amazing and I am so proud of you. You must be working so hard, keep up the good work!

I'm so sorry to hear that your grandmother is sick. I'm sure she was so happy you went to visit her, and it sounds like the train ride was a blast! I hope you will have a chance to visit her again soon. I will keep your family in my prayers and hope that she gets better.

It is starting to get warm in Boston, and it's almost summertime. My friends and I have been enjoying the sun! Is it winter in Zambia now?

I am really looking forward to coming in July. I can't wait to see your school and see all of the hard work you have been doing!

Chrissy

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
