About

Carmen is one of our most dedicated students. She attends all of our events and meetings, and is eager to begin her studies. After graduating high school, she worked as a waitress in Puka Rumi, one of the best restaurants in town. Here, under the mentorship of renowned chef Alejo, she fell in love with the art of cooking and hopes to someday open her own restaurant. In her spare time, she is an athlete. Her favourite sport is volleyball, and she was the only female to compete in last year's Ollantaytambo weightlifting competition! She comes from a humble campesino (rural indigenous) family. Since her father passed away 16 years ago, she and her nine siblings have since been raised by her single mother.

Hi Carmen, we visited Ollantaytambo a few years ago and loved the people and the Sacred Valley. I am glad you have a passion for cooking! What is your favorite recipe? Have a great school year. Meredith
Hello Christina,
of course I met Erick, he has been living in the same house with us the whole time! It's great to get to know him and all the other volunteers, I love to meet people from different countries.
Greetings from Cusco!
Good luck with your schooling Carmen!!! If you meet Erick Jantzen, one of the interns with Mosqoy from Victoria, Canada, he's a good friend of mine! :)
Dear Susan and Jaclyn!

!Gracias! for your messages and the financial support by the College! I'm still enjoying my degree a lot, especially now as I am gaining practical experience in my internship at a restaurant. For almost one month, I've been working there six hours a day, monday to friday, and already learned so many things! And as I have to complete a total of 770 hours of internships, there is still a lot more I can learn from it. In the beginning I found it quite exhausting to have classes in the mornings and work until the evening, but I am getting more and more used to it now and enjoy the new experiences and the company of my co-workers at the restaurant.

Good luck for both of you!

Carmen
Hi Carmen,
It's the teacher from Brentwood College, Sue. We had a fundraising dance and are sending you some money to help with your education this year. Hope you are well and enjoying your studies.
Hi Carmen,

Great to hear from you! It sounds like you know a great deal about cooking. The dish you described sounds delicious! Are you taking any classes right now? I am taking four really interesting courses at my university. In my free time, I like to listen to music, read and write, and cook!

Hope to hear from you soon!

All my best,
Jaclyn
Hi Jaclyn, Laura and Amy! I love to cook everything, I LOVE to cook. When I'm in the kitchen, I forget about all my problems and I cook with joy for everyone. I like good service when I cook. My favourite dish is "ceviche" - a concoction of raw fish and lime. I am happy because I am achieving my dreams, and I invite you both to come visit us in Peru and experience our culture! I'm so happy to have friends like you.

I live in Ollantaytambo and I exercise - I sometimes go to the exercise parks, sometimes I go to the gym, on the weekends I hike in the hills with my family. And I hope that you achieve your wishes in 2014!!
Hi Carmen,

My name is Jaclyn, and I am a student at Brown University who works with The School Fund. I just wanted to take this chance to introduce myself and see how your classes are coming along. It is really cool that you would like to start your own restaurant. I love to cook in my free time, but I am not the best at it! What kinds of food do you like to cook?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Jaclyn
Hola Carmen!
Laura
My name is Carmen Rosa Meseco Umapillco, I am from the Ollantaytambo district, and I am a Mosqoy student. I study Gastronomy and Culinary Arts at the Superior Institute Khipu. I am in the second semester. When I finish, I want to work to save money and start a restaurant business, which is my dream. I also want to help the other students in the program.
Hello Carmen, I hope you will have a wonderful year at school. Like you, I enjoy exercise. I hike, backpack, and jog. I hope you will find good ways to exercise in the city where you study. I think that will be Lima, but I am not sure. I have sponsored Mosqoy students in the past, and that is where they went to school. Write a line or two when you get some time, and let me know how you get on. Be well!
Amy

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
