Hey James,

My name is Justin Li and I'm a college student from California.

I hope you are doing well in school! I think education is something really important.

What have you learned in school? What's your favorite subject?

I heard you like to play computer games! I love computer games, too! What's your favorite game? I like to play Super Mario. Have you played that game before?

Hope to hear back from you. Take care!

Warmly,
Justin Li

To The School Fund,

Hi everyone! How are you doing? I think that everyone is breathing and kicking; in all things I think that you are very great. How is everyone doing? I am fantastic and the weather here in Kenya is very cool and hot. How about there?

As I am continuing with my studies in Good Shepard Academy, I’m improving day by day. For sure I am improving because now I know that the largest star we know is called Stella Pistol or Pistol star and it has a life that is shorter than smaller stars. And the star nearest to the sun is Proxima Lentauri. There are 70,000 million, million, million stars! Do you know anything else about our good smart universe?

I am looking forward to December holiday. I think it will be the best. Greet everyone. Bye.

Love,
James
Hi James,
It's Auntie Tricia!I hope you are doing well and enjoying your break from school. I was excited to hear that you are no longer boarding at Good Shepherd and hope you are loving being in a new room with the older boys. I hope you are doing well and I am praying for you and you brothers and sisters all the time. Big hugs to you and everyone else at FK. Miss you all so much!

Nakupenda sana,
Auntie Tricia
Hi James!
I'm doing very well. I've never seen a volcano, so I can't even imagine what it would look like. I suppose it could be interesting to see, but its probably best that it was small enough to be disappointing. :)
Turkey was very beautiful. I visited many mosques while I was there. The mosques were so cool! They were decorated with colorful tiles and gem stones and looked like no church I had ever seen. I'm now back in the United States working on a farm in Washington DC.
How is life in Kenya? What are you doing during your summer holiday? How are your brothers and sisters at Flying Kites doing?

Love,
Christi
Dear Christine,
Hi, how are you? I suppose that you more than fine. First of all, I want to tell you that I didn't see volcano ash. I'm sorry for such a disappointing volcano. I did meet Matt and Saeed, they tought me about importance of the school fund and I feel it was very good. How is Turkey?

Love,
James K.
Hello James how are you? I hope you are fine. The of writing in your Journal i tell you about my favorite subject which as follows: physics, Chemistry, and biology. when i was grow up i want to be a doctor this is my dream. What is your dream? I will have more questions later, hope to hear you soon.
Hi James,
I am doing very well. I just graduated from college two weeks ago, and now I am going to Africa for one month. Yesterday I was scheduled to arrive in Tanzania, but a big volcano erupted in Eritrea so I am stuck halfway between my home and your home, in Turkey. We were supposed to stop in Kenya on the way, but they said there was too much ash from the volcano so the airplane couldn't fly. I wonder if you can see the ash from the volcano that stopped our plane from flying. It erupted pretty close to where you live.

I agree that the best thing about the ocean is to swim in it. I like to play in the waves especially. I hope that I will get to swim in the ocean this summer.

I hope the Day of African Child was very fun! It is always important to celebrate people who fought for important things. Is this your favorite holiday? I hope you'll tell me if you had a good time!

Did you meet my friend Matt and Saeed when they came to visit Flying Kites? They told me they loved visiting all of you!

Your friend,
Christi
HI Christi,

How are you doing in America? I think you and your friends are doing well. I too like to study ocean, but most of all to swim on salty water.

I last yaer went to Mombasa sea port where we swam on the ocean. It was very enjoyable. I have never seen an oyster. This year my school, flying kites and other schools have a special event that will be held in Flying Kites (the day of AFrican child). That is the most exciting thing in F.K. Most Kenyan play football and Kenyan football team is Harambee Star. Harambee means pull together.

We celebrate the Day of African Child on 11 June where the most children were not educated but they fought for their right, so that why we celebrate it. I will be going to school soon but still communicate with you when we get out.

good bye. your friend james
Hello everyone,

How was your Easters? Mine was great. We cooked 5 roosters for super. We also had an Easter egg hunt outside. We even invited the neighborhood kids for it. It was fun and a beautiful day. I really think Easter is good. Now we are back at school and I am happy because I like learning. I also like my friends at school. I am sad because I miss my family at Flying Kites a lot. Thank you to you all for all your help.

Love,
James
Hi James,
It's good to hear from you! I like science a lot too, and I take some science classes at Brown University. They mostly have to do with the ocean. I love to study the ocean because it has so many beautiful and interesting creatures that live inside it. My favorite sea creature is the oyster. I spend most of my time at Brown studying oysters. I don't know if they have oysters in Kenya. Have you ever seen an oyster or the ocean?

I'm 21 years old, and I have an older brother and an older sister. Nikki, my sister, is my best friend. She lives with the rest of my family in Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, my family has three pets - 1 dog and 2 cats. No rabbits though.

I would love to hear more about your life at Flying Kites! What kind of games do you play with your 26 siblings? What kind of food do you eat? I have never been to Kenya, so I don't have any idea what it's like there.

Best wishes for you and your very big family,
Christi
Hi Christi,

Thank you for writing a nice letter. What class are you in at University? How is grandfather? My favorite subject is science and mathematics. I like studying Saturn because it is a beautiful planet and I have a round ring in it. How old are you? Do you have any brother or sister? I have two brothers. I have 26 siblings at Flying Kites. My favorite pet is rabbit.

Hope you are good,
James
Hi James!
I'm Christi and I live in Providence, Rhode Island. I study at Brown University. It's so nice that you help your grandmother when you visit her. I visited my grandfather a few weeks ago and I helped him cook and clean his house. He lives really really far away, so it is always a treat to see him.

I hope you learn more about the planets! That was my favorite subject in grade school. I always liked Uranus the best, because its blue and because a giant asteroid hit it to make it tilted! What else do you like to study in school?

Christi
Hello Everybody! How are you all? We have just closed our school and now I am on break. Home is exciting because we help our community every Saturday. Last Saturday we went to help an old grandmother and she was very happy. We helped her to clean the house and to fetch some water. It was fun and it felt good to help her. It is also good to be home with my brothers and sisters. At school I miss them a lot. Thank you so much! - James
Hi Kaleigh! Where do you live in America? Which grade are you in? I am happy that we both like stars! I have not seen a shooting star lately because my home is very cloudy because its rainy season and we are new a mountain. I am break from school. I am together with my family and I am very happy. In my school I like my teachers and I enjoy playing games and my best game is Football. In school we have studied about the planets I think Saturn and Jupiter are very interesting because Saturn is beautiful and Jupiter is the biggest. I hope you are well and I cant wait to hear from you again. Thank you! – James
So you like to look up at the night sky to huh? Looking at the stars has always been one of the most remarkable things to me. Here I am on Earth, and yet there are millions of places unseen and unknown to me. I am a student in America so I completely understand your love of learning and your desire to continuously learn more and more each day. I also understand leaving a family as a sacrifice to get an education. I live far from my family also while I am at school, and while it is hard, I have never regretted my decision.

I am so excited for you and your big dreams! I hope we can become friends! Even if we do live so far away, we're pretty close compared to the distance from Earth to Pluto! I hope you have a fantastic week, let me know if you see any shooting starts (they are my favorite)!

-Kaleigh

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
