About

Mark is 18 years old and studies BS Secondary Education in Mathematics. He lives with his parents, younger brother and sister. Mark's parents work hard from 5am to 8pm at the nearby dump site, searching for items they can sell. To help his parents, Mark does the household chores every day. Before college, he cleans their small house and collects water from the tap of a nearby sugarcane field. After college, he cooks rice for his family and helps his younger siblings with their schoolwork. After this he has time for his own studies. Mark is studying hard so he can become a high school math teacher. He wants to support his parents in the future.

Hello, I can feel that this coming week will be tiring for me. We have lots of things to do and assignments to comply and pass. And since I hate cramming I planned to finish some of those stuff today. Aja! I can do it!
Hello Ms. Judy S., thank you for supporting my study. This time I am more inspired to study and to do my best in class. Next week is our Second Major Exam and I'm doing advance reading and some reviews as my way of preparation. AJA! I know I can pass all the exam and got a high grade! Thank you again and God Bless!

Hello Mark, My name is Judy, I am the CEO of TSFTZ. I just read your journal -- you write very well. I understand what you said. I was the same in that I did not enjoy Math too much when I was in school, but I always studied very hard. It give me enough background later so that I could study computer science in graduate school. I just contributed to your support on the website. I will read your journal so you can write back to me any time. Keep up the good work.
This year is my busiest year ever! Last year I'm just the treasurer in our organization, Teachers' League, but last election I won as the Vice-President. I never enjoy my summer vacation because of this. Months before the class starts, once a week we have the regular meeting for the new activities, programs, budgets, rules and strategies of our organization. And even when the class start we still have this regular meeting. This July we have different activities for our freshmen like General Assembly, Freshmen Initiation Rites and Freshmen Welcome Party. It was tiring but definitely fulfilling. And because responsibility demands sacrifice, time management for the officers was really important. We must used our time wisely and productively. This is just the beginning of it, we still have almost 9 months for our planned programs and activities. And through teamwork I know we can achieve our organization's aspiration and goals for this school year.
I chose to enter First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities(FAITH) because it was considered as no.1 in our city in offering BSEducation. I planned to chose Science as my major but I were shock that they will not offer it that year and even in the following year due to the low enrollees on that major. English and Mathematics are the only subjects that they will offer that year. I knew the different parts of speeches and some rules in grammar but I'm not good in writing English compositions and also I'm not that fluent in speaking English, so for me English is not a good choice. Mathematics....uhhmm..just OMG!!! I really hate math. I'm one of those students who dislike math so much. I remember my high school days where I always ask my seatmate such questions like "why do we need to find X?" or "does studying algebra really essential in our life?". It gave me headaches and my brain cells seem to explode everytime I tried to answer math. And for me, one should only need to learn from math are the 4 basic operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and not finding x. And to cut the long story short, second year came and we are obliged to choose our major between Mathematics and English. And believed it or not I chose Mathematics over English. You might think that I was possessed during that time but I'm not. One year is enough for me to choose. I interviewed some students who are taking Mathematics and I found out that some of them are like me who hate mathematics before but learned to love it through times. I can say that I felt in love with math. And maybe it's the fate that brought me to where I am now. I just learned that if you are determined and motivated to study, everything that seems to be difficult would be easier for you. And just study whenever you don't understand the lesson, study every time you had exams and even without it, study to not complicate things and study because you are supposed to. And I promise that I will tell this story of mine to my future students who find math as difficult and I will inspire them to love math just like what happened to me.
I remember my kindergarten days, everytime that my teacher or someone asked me on what I want to become when I grow up I always tell them that I want to become a doctor someday, without knowing why. But now, just the idea of being a doctor or just the word HOSPITAL were enough for me to shiver. Maybe because I developed this phobia on blood during those days that I were confined on a hospital due to Dengue. It was my first time to be hospitalized for about 3 weeks. And during elementary days, I forgot this dream of mine and this time I want to become a teacher. Maybe because of my teachers during those days, who are so kind and efficient in their job. And I just tell to myself "I want to become like them". And while I'm typing this I can't stop myself to smile, reminiscing those days and knowing that through my perseverance and determination I will become a teacher.
Great things come to those who work hard, maybe this is the reason why I was able to enter in a prestigious college in our city and even got a scholarship there. College is so different to High School. Assignments, activities, projects and the like things seem to be easy for me. But those things that's just a piece of a cake for me before changed when I became a college student. And as a scholar I was supposed to comply with those things. Through time management I were able to handle those changes and I even maintain my scholarship up to now.

Hi Mark Anthony,
My name is Kathy and I live on Bainbridge Island in the United States. How are you doing in school this year? Is math your favorite subject? You sound like you are a good student and you work hard for your family. Do you have a hobby? I live with my husband. I like to be outside in my garden or walking. I also like reading and photography. I hope you and your family are well, and I hope to hear from you sometime.
Sincerely,
Kathy

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
