Journal

Use the journal feature to write directly to a student

It is nice to see most of you already went to the computer center to update your journal. I know all of you had a great break. It is already half way on in your second semester. Two more months before this school year is going to end. I wish you all to try your best. I know you all can do it.

In your summer assignment you wrote that you will study hard so you could reach your dream. It is true that your future is in your own hands, and your own destination is how you are going to work on your goals and reach them. People could recommend that you do some things and they can help you in some way, but you are the only person that can make the your dream come true. Any step you take, you are one step close to your dream. I want to see you all work hard to reach your next destination.

As the people who fund your education we want to know you. The only way we have to know you are through your journals.

Please write in your journal, so that we can know you better. You can write about your daily life, your school, your friends, what subjects you are studying now. What is your favorite subject and why do you like it, and so on. We want to know your hopes and dreams. Or write us anything at all that you want us to know about.

I want you all to be outstanding people in my mind, each of you separate and special. If you are just a name in a group, there is no way for me to know you.

I know some of you are going to have your National Exam. I pray for you and wish you the best.
When I was your age. I was the same as you.. I worked for everything I needed and wanted.
I never gave up. I knew if I just tried hard and never lost my hope that I would make it.

I did talk to Mr. Amos, and Mr. Paulo, they said MMM center (computer center) will be open any time. You can drop by to study the subject you are interested in from the RACHEL PI.

Everybody can be successful if they are self learners. The more knowledge you have the more successful you will be. Everything on this earth comes and goes, only an Education will be with you and nobody can take it away from you.

Hello Students!

My name is Karen and I am one of the TSF TZ contacts team for Iringa Girls Secondary School.

As you can see I have also been able to fund of some of your school fees this semester.

I am an older woman with one grown up son. My son’s name is Christopher.

I have worked with and in books my whole life. In college I was a World Literature and Mythology major. After my son was born I began working part-time in bookstores. This work became a full time job by the time my son was 6 years old. I have now worked in bookstores as a book buyer, a manager, an inventory director, and I worked for American’s largest book publisher for many years.

I want to encourage you to write me. I want to know you, and learn how you are and about your school progress, I am also interested in your families and in your own personal interests and hobbies.

I also want you to know that I may be able to answer questions, if you have them, if I do not have answers, I can offer opinions. I promise to make it clear when it is an opinion ;)

With my best wishes for a great school semester!

Karen
Hi

My name is Indy Ting. I am very happy to be introduced by my friend Judy Severson to The School Found. I have always been very interested to meet students like you in another country.

I had the opportunity to travel to Botswana and Kenya last year. I will love to travel to Tanzania in the future.

I used to work in high tech area before my retirement. Now I live in California with my husband.

I would love to hear from you. So please write me back to let me know what you are doing lately.

Hopefully, with the journal exchange, we will get to know each other more in the near future.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Indy
Hello,

I just want to say hello to all of you.
My name is Judy Severson.
My son Matthew Severson began The School Fund (TSF) in 2009 when he was at University.
After he graduated from University, he started to work full time. It was then that he asked me to help TSF in Tanzania.

We were really lucky to get help from the Chairman and President Mr. Fuad, the Chief Operation Officer Mr. Amos in Iringa, our local representative Mr. Paulo in Karatu and
all the local headmaster/headmistress and teachers. Without their help we will not be able to support all the TSF students in Tanzania.
I thank all of them very much for all of their support.

I am very glad we are able to help to pay much of your school fees, so you can continue your education. Keep up the good work! I hope one day you can reach your dream.

I brought RACHEL-PI systems for all the schools and I hope that you use them to help you study. The content on RACHEL-PI can provide a lot of additional information for you to learn.
I hope your new semester is successful and joyful.

With my best wishes,
Judy

Hello Joyce,

Welcome back to school.

I hope your break was enjoyable.

I am interested in how you spent your school break, and if you learned anything new, or had a new thought, or met some new people, or went to a new place.

I have spent the last month mostly at work. It has been a month full of changes, two employees have left, and one more employee is in the hospital having surgery. The rest of the staff are working harder to make up the lost hours.

I have been meaning to write you to make sure you knew that you can ask me anything, and if I can answer, I will do so to the best of my ability.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Karen
Hello Joyce,

I hope you and your family are well.

Thank you for your post on your classwork on algebra. I found it very interesting.

I just saw a television special on mathematics in nature, their main point was that mathematics seem to be discovered everywhere.

From the petals of flowers to the curve of major hurricane storm clouds a number system named The Fibonacci Numbers can be found.

I don't understand it at all; and there seems to be some different opinions of whether math exists in nature as a force- and we just discovered it?

Or if we are making up systems to describe what we see.

Anyway I cannot solve it, but here is an example of a Fibonacci number expressed in a plant form... It also looks like a spiral galaxy.

Have a good week!
Karen
Hello TSF MEMBER

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
