Dear TSF Sponsors,

This is Samantha, Orkeeswa School's Scholarship Coordinator, writing on behalf of Ester. Ester is now in her final year of Secondary School, and is working very hard to study for her National Exams, which determine whether she can continue her studies as a college student.

Ester made a holiday card for you in her Art Class at the end of last year, and I would like to share it with you here! Thank you for your continued support of Ester and Orkeeswa School.

With gratitude,

Samantha
Hi TSF Sponsors!

This is Emma, the Scholarship Coordinator at Ester’s school, and I am writing on her behalf to update you all. Ester has been doing very well in 11th Grade this year, and it’s been amazing to watch her grow throughout the year. She is doing well in her classes and she has remained a very strong member of the Girls Basketball team, always committing to practices and her teammates. 11th Grade is an important year for students, as they begin to fully step into more leadership roles and opportunities on campus. For an example, Ester has been involved in the tutoring and mentorship program at school over the past few months. Recently, I had a chance to sit down with her and hear her thoughts about being a leader on campus, and I wanted to share them with you all!

"I really like being a leader because I feel good when I am able to help people to do things and change their own lives. For example, sometimes when I have seen my friends doing bad things, I have given them advice on how to do the right thing. Seeing them change to do the right thing has made me feel very proud and has changed their life to be better, and has also made me want to lead more. I think that leadership is important because when finding a job and sharing your ideas with other people, you need to be able to speak confidently and share your leadership. I also feel like my leadership is important in my community because I can give advice to my neighbors about how to send their children to school and try to change their lives economically."

We feel lucky to have Ester’s leadership on campus, and we’re excited to continue to watch her grow and mature in her final year at Orkeeswa! Thank you all very much for supporting Ester’s education. She is so grateful and always appreciates the encouraging words and sentiments.

With gratitude,
Emma (on Ester’s behalf)

Hi again, TSF sponsors! This is Lisa again, updating you on behalf of Ester. Ester just celebrated her 10th grade graduation, and started 11th grade classes last month. She had a great summer break, and enjoyed writing some poetry with a visiting group at Orkeeswa School. Here's an excerpt from one of her poems, as well as a couple recent photos. Thank you for your support of Ester's education!

I am Ester
I am smart, great, and athletic
I wonder why I am firstborn, and where I will be in the future
I see myself as a leader and a great girl
I feel fantastic and wonderful for being a girl
I cry for the young ladies who run out from school and are married
I want to reach my goals and be a role model in my community

Thanks,
Lisa

Hello TSF sponsors!

This is Lisa Heinert, Director of Scholarships at Ester's School. I am writing on Ester's behalf, as our internet access has been limited at school, making it hard for Ester to post to her journal. Ester is doing great and is eager to start Form Five (11th grade) next month. She just finished her community service project, which involved teaching and coaching at a local primary school for two months.

As she reflected on this experience and her future goals, Ester was reminded of why she wants to be a teacher. She said, "I loved doing community service because I want to be a teacher. It is important because it improves my confidence. I learned in order to be a teacher you need to be smart and hard-working. When you are teaching the students, you need to motivate them so that they will listen to you."

I've also included a photo of Ester teaching during her community service. Thank you so much for your support!

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
