About

Helena was born in Sofala province. She is a very quiet girl, humble and friendly. In her free time after school, she is doing her homework and likes to play with her friends. She is orphaned of parents since she was little and then moved in with her grandmother, who took care of her until she was of school age, then ASEM helped her to attend school. In 2013, when she was 12 years old, her Granny died and she stayed living in the house together with her 18 years old cousin. For sustenance, her uncle, when able to, helps the 2 girls. The uncle has a wife with six children, and no permanent job. When the 2 girls have nothing to eat, the neighbors sometimes help them.

I have been reading the news about the terrible storm in Mozambique on Thursday, March 14th, and am very concerned for your safety. It sounds like your area was badly affected. You are in my prayers.
Dear Barbara,
Hope you had a blessed Easter. Yes, we are entering winter, but it is never freezing cold. Thank you for the effort you have done to help me. I promise I will study hard to finish school and become smart to life's challenges. I wish you to continue with your gentle heart. God bless you too.
I have access to internet once a month with the help of translation,

Thank you, and a strong hug.

Her poor background did not deter her from achieving her goal. She is very determined to succeed in life and become the first surgeon in her village. Her father is a woodcarver while her mother is a house wife. Due to lack of market for wood carvings her father has not been able to provide for the big family.
