About

Helena was born in Sofala province. She is a very quiet girl, humble and friendly. In her free time after school, she is doing her homework and likes to play with her friends. She is orphaned of parents since she was little and then moved in with her grandmother, who took care of her until she was of school age, then ASEM helped her to attend school. In 2013, when she was 12 years old, her Granny died and she stayed living in the house together with her 18 years old cousin. For sustenance, her uncle, when able to, helps the 2 girls. The uncle has a wife with six children, and no permanent job. When the 2 girls have nothing to eat, the neighbors sometimes help them.

Dear Helena,

Thank you so much for your letter from January. I’m so very sorry you had to go through another cyclone and I hope you are well and can graduate from school. Times, as you say, are very hard. We are feeling it here also. I have lived inside my home for almost a year now and many friends have died. My husband and I are ok, but life has gotten very limited. I got some pictures of the repairs done to your house sent to me by Barbara Hoffman and I am sending one to you in case you did not see it. I hope this is a picture of you.

Take care and all best wishes for your future,

Barbara
Dear Barbara,
Hope you had a blessed Easter. Yes, we are entering winter, but it is never freezing cold. Thank you for the effort you have done to help me. I promise I will study hard to finish school and become smart to life's challenges. I wish you to continue with your gentle heart. God bless you too.
I have access to internet once a month with the help of translation,

Thank you, and a strong hug.
