Greetings Mueni! I am so happy to hear you will be a teaching assistant at the Mbaikini School. I will be traveling to Wamunyu in March and I hope to see you then. The Mbaikini School was the first school I ever visited on my first trip to Kenya. It has a special place in my heart. I heard there was training today in Wamunyu. I hope it was helpful. Try to keep reading yourself and encourage your students to read. It is helpful in so many ways! Thanks for writing! Sharon
Dear sharon
I take this opportunity to thank you very much for the support you have offered to me . I did my final exam in high school and and scored grade c. since I have completed my high school education, I am going to give back to the community by being an assistant teacher at Mbaikini primary school until july, and later join college where i will pursue teaching as my career.Thank you
Dear Mueni! I hope your term is going well and that you are enjoying school. I always like hearing from you. I imagine in a few weeks you will be on your August break. While you are on break, see if you can borrow some books from Kenya Connect so you can read -- it will help you in school. Right now I am in the country of Scotland which is part of Great Britain. My husband Mike and I are working during the week (via our computers) and visiting some of the outer Hebrides, islands a part of Scotland, during the weekend. We can see the ocean from our rental house and there are a lot of sheep everywhere. People raise sheep here primarily for their wool and for the meat. Next week they will start shearing the sheep and collecting the wool.

I am currently reading a book about people who migrated from the country of Mexico to the U.S. in the early 1900s. It's very interesting story of two families and I'm learning a great deal.

Keep working hard in school and helping your family with the farm during breaks. I will be in Kenya in October so maybe I will get to see you. Take good care.

Dear Mirriam Mueni---

I trust you are doing well in school. James told me that a school break is coming up in April and I hope you will get a chance to visit the Learning Resource Center and perhaps borrow a few books! It is spring here in Maryland. Our trees and flowers are beginning to bloom after the grey winter. It's quite pretty. Today it is raining quite a bit--- it's good for our upcoming growing season. Our children are coming home this weekend from University. I am really looking forward to seeing them and hearing about their coursework. I hope you continue to work hard in school and remember to keep reading! Take good care, Sharon
Dear Mirriam Mueni:

Thank you so much for writing to me. I imagine you are home helping your parents on the farm and doing a bit of studying. I hope you were able to borrow some books from the Learning Resource Center so you could read a bit over the break. Are you still interested in being a doctor? It has started getting cold in Maryland for the winter and we might have some snow later this week. This year we are going on a special trip for Christmas. My daughter Megan is in University in England. She is studying English and Literature. We are going over to see her for the holidays and my mom (her grandma) and my husbands parents are going too. It should be a lot of fun and I am very excited to see Megan. Emma, my other daughter, is also in University in New York state which is about 5 hours from our house. She will come home soon too. She's busy taking exams now. She is studying maths and government.

I am planning on visiting Kenya in June and will be bringing a group of University students with me. I hope that I will be able to see you then. In the meantime, I wish you and your family a very blessed and peaceful Christmas.

Your friend, Sharon

Hi SHARON

How are you, I hope you are fine with your family. My family and I we are also fine. Am so glad to hear that you came to Kenya in June. Am so sorry because I was in school. I hope next time we will meet. I want to tell that in term two there were many activities in our school. We closed our school 12/8/2016 and we will open our school on 29/8/2016. Now I am at home helping my parents. Also I am taking my studies. I am so thankful to you for paying for me fees for next year. I promise you am going to work very hard.
Mueni---

So glad that I can help support you for your studies in 2017! Keep working hard in school! I left a few pics when I was in Kenya last week. James will pass them on to you. Take good care! Sharon
Hi Sharon,
Thank you very much writing me a journal. I will work hard in my subjects to achieve my goal. I want to tell you that during the holiday we had a tour to NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK. It was so enjoyable, we saw many wild animals ,which I was only seeing them in a book. We also saw the caches since it was a geocaching tour! weather there was so enjoyable because of the cool air from green trees. During the holiday w had a workshop at Kenya connect, where we discussed about puberty, career choice and peer pressure, which took two days only and was very good we enjoyed it. At home I helped my parent so much during the holiday, because it was rain season, I helped them to dig out the weeds and also to plant. My family members and I wish you and our family good time. Am so sorry for saying this, in June when you will came to Kenya I will not be there because I will be at school. But I hope and trust in God that one day we will meet. Thank you very much.
Mueni--
Thank you so much for writing to me. I am happy to hear that you are working hard in school and that you are reading books over your break. You might enjoy some of the magic school bus books about the human body or about germs--- they have a lot of good information and fun stories.

It is spring here in Maryland and all the trees are getting their green leaves and flowers are blooming. One of my favorite bushes, the lilac bush, is blooming next to our house. It has a fragrant smell and is quite beautiful. Migratory boards are flying through and we are seeing more wildlife like rabbits, deer, and woodchucks. The temperatures are warmer and the days are growing longer.

I am coming to Kenya in June with some other members of Kenya Connect. I am hoping that I will get to see you on that trip. In the meantime, enjoy your break, keeping reading, and continue helping your parents. Your friend, Sharon "Mutanu" Runge
Hi Sharon

Hope all is well with you and your family. My family and I are very fine. We have closed school for the April holiday. This was the first term in high school and I am working hard to achieve my goal of being a doctor in life. As you have to me to be borrowing books at the Kenya connect; I will be doing it every holiday and during midterm we close the schools. Am going to read many storybooks to improve my English language. I will also be going to revise harder in Biology and other subjects. Am so thankful for your support in my education

During this holiday I will help my parents in many activities .I pray God to be with you and our family.

Mueni
Hi Mueni! I am so excited that you want to be a doctor-- especially a gynecologist. I understand you are an excellent student and work hard in school. Keep working hard and try to borrow books from the Kenya Connect LRC so you can read--- reading will help in your school work. I think we also have some biology books there which will help in your studies of science. I live in Maryland, but I've been to Kenya seven times and I plan to come again in June. I hope I can meet you face to face then. I have two daughters, Megan, who is in University in England, and Emma, who is in her last year of secondary school. My husband Mike is a wildlife biology. He works with endangered species like polar bears and manatees.

I believe you will realize your dream and be a doctor. I know your village could use more medical help. I am cheering you on. Keep working hard and read as much as possible. Your friend, Sharon "Mutanu" Runge

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
