About

I lived with my parents at Gunyoda village for about 18 years when I was in primary and secondary schools. My father is about 79 years old and my mother is 67 years old. My parents got married in old ages. We now live in a worse condition due to absolute poverty in our family because of the age of my parents. I am the last born in our family, and the only one who went primary and secondary and now Advanced education. My parents are normal peasants who have one acre of land which is not enough to fulfill family basic need requirements such as food, shelter and clothes and the issue of school fees. The most difficult experience that I had earlier in life is the worst living condition due to poverty, this is why I tried my level best in studies. My dream is to be a good agricultural officer. That is why I am now studying hard to achieve my dream. I felt proud when I was selected to join Advanced high school. I am now very happy being in class for further studies. I would like go to the University and I also hope to do the best at University in order to be a good servant to help the family, community and the government.

Dear student,
It has been a long time since I last wrote to you. I am very sorry! It is not because I forgot nor because of my laziness, but because I was tied up with my personal problem. My aging mother has been in and out of hospital many times for health issues, and I am her major care giver. Thanks for everyone's prayer, she makes small improvement.
Wish you do your best on your learning and make great effort preparing your test. You have big potential that's why TSFTZ funded you.

Dear student,

Best regards, Judy
I would like to share to you what I have learn in my week.
It is about EARTHQUAKES
Earthquakes refer to the sudden shaking or vibrations of the earth’s crust due to sudden and rapid displacement of tectonic plates along the line of weakness (faults). It occurs mainly in volcanic eruption zones. The point from which the earthquake originates is known as focus and the intensity of earthquakes can be measured by using an instrument called seismograph. The point on the surface vertically above the focus is called epicentre.
There are several causes of earthquakes. These are:-
• Faulting of the lithosphere caused by tectonic movement where one plate slides over another plate.
• Mass wasting like land slide and rock fall can cause occurrence of earthquake, but this is for local scale.
• Falling objects from the atmosphere such as meteorites may lead to the shaking earth’s crust.
• Man’s influence through his activities such as mining using explosives like dynamites and transport vessels like trains and heavy trucks.
Also there are some effects which are:-
• They can cause loss of life and property.
• They can displace parts of the earth’s crust vertically or laterally.
• They can raise or lower parts of the sea floor.
• They can raise or lower coastal rocks.
• They can cause landslide and open up deep cracks in the surface rocks.
There are several Measurement of earthquake. These are like as follows:-
The intensity and magnitude measure the strength of the earthquake. These are obtained by detecting the Seismic waves using instruments called seismograph or seismometer.
Intensity is a measure of how hard the earthquake shakes the ground. It is determined through the effects produced by the earthquake. Intensity varies from one place to another. While the intensity of a specific earthquake varies, its magnitude does not vary. So it is important not to confuse magnitude with intensity.
The scale which measures the intensity is called Mercalli scale. It ranges from undetectable, moderate, strong to major catastrophe.
Magnitude refers to the total amount of amount of energy released and it is given on the Ritcher scale. This scale ranges from 0 to 8.9.
There are several precautionary measures to avoid high damage from earthquakes. These are
• Refraining from building high-rising structures on the land vulnerable to earthquake as well as strengthening buildings by using reinforced concrete, steel frames, deep foundations and light roofs.
• Geologists should detect epicentres and tell the people to evacuate the places likely to be affected by earthquakes.
• To avoid constructing very large water bodies like Kariba dam which can cause the earthquakes due to the weight of water and other materials.
• Discouraging the use of explosives like dynamites in breaking the rocks during mining and construction operations.
Can you share to me something that was interest to you during your week??????

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
