About

I come from an extended family. We have passed through so many challenges. One challenge is poverty. My parents' income is so limited that I cannot afford all school and home requirements such as food, books, and school uniforms. My happiest moment was when I was selected to join Form 1 at my secondary school. I was proud of it. My dream is to become an engineer. This will come only by studying hard. I thank The School Fund for showing interest by giving a scholarship to me. I hope one day I can also help other people.

Dear Students,

A few years ago I came across a list consisting of some habits that are good to get into. I have incorporated these good habits into my daily life and I’d like to share them with you. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

1. Sleep early, around 9pm - 10pm. After working hard through the day, your body and mind need refreshing. Rest them as soon as possible.
2. Wake up early, around 5am - 6am. Start your day early. That time is the best time for inspiration to come in. After wake up, face the sky and the sun through your window. You will be motivated.
3. Be independent. Do your tasks by yourself. Solve your problem by yourself. Don’t always depend on other people. This doesn’t mean you should not get help from others.
4. Say thank you. Always say those 2 words if you get help from others.
5. Reading. Motivation and inspiration comes from what your eyes scanning for.
6. Writing. Put down in words on things that come to your head. Try to write 1 article per day. Having a diary is also a good approach.
7. Walking. Let sport always get into your day. The simplest one is walking. Keep moving and stay healthy.
8. Meditate. Focus on what you are doing. Finish it first and move to the other one. Don’t do multitasking. You can also meditate by sitting calmly and paying attention to your breath.
9. Help other people. Help people as they need and you are capable of doing it.

Have a great week,
Jonathan Gilbert
Dear students, The semester has gone by quickly. We hope you continue to thrive and enjoy your studies. Life will be much easier later if you study hard now. Your teachers are there to help you and so are we. Each one of you must have a favorite subject, something you love and can do well at . . . That will make you happy! Challenge yourselves in other subjects that might not interest you as much and do the very best you can. You will be surprised . . . You might decide you like those subjects too😄.
We are so proud of you and want only the best for you! Study Hard! We are excited for your futures!!

Hello ting

Today i wants to shares with you about establishment of colonial rule in Africa .
colonial rule refers to the introduction of colonial rule in Africa by European power (nation) During 19 century.it replaced the tradition kingdoms and chiefdoms in Africa societies.
tactics used in establishment of colonial rule in Africa are such that .
1. Signing of bogus treaties
2.Alliance (collaboration)
3.Concession
4. violence or military tactics
5. Gun boat diplomacy
6. Provision of social services like education and Christianity
7. combination of tactics.

Thank you

I think you learn something about colonial rule in Africa , If you have any idea pleas tell me .
Dear Students, By now, you have come along way this school year. We hope school has gone well for you, you have studied hard and are meeting your goals.

Dear Students,

I love to collect wisdom from different sources that are meaningful to me.
Below are a few of my favorites that I would like to share with you:

1) When you master your emotions, you master your life
Anger. This is one emotion that is sure to pop up sometime during the day. How you deal with your anger says a lot about who you are as a person. How well do you manage your emotions? Do you have a harsh reaction if someone says something insulting to you? Anger can be a destructive emotion if not managed properly.

2) Respect other people’s opinions even when they differ from your own.

Conflict. It’s rare that two people agree on most topics. Conflict is everywhere. It happens at work, home, with family and friends. Disagreeing isn’t the problem (although most people think it is). The problem is not giving value to the opinions of others.

3) Experience The Joy Of Learning
Each time you learn something new you gain more knowledge and with more knowledge come more confidence. Learning helps us become more adaptable and flexible to new situations. Learning encourages us to be more creative and innovative in our thinking and we are therefore more comfortable with the unknown.
Reading books is a great way for us to learn. To fully embrace the joy of learning, never stop reading and searching for more knowledge.

4) Touch someone’s soul with your kindness
Random Acts of Kindness. It’s the little things in life that matter most. Hold a door, smile at people. Kindness does not cost much and it touches the soul of another person.

5) Speech is a powerful tool.
Your words. Watch your words carefully. They can be daggers or building blocks. You can crush the spirit of someone or make them feel like they can conquer the world. Taste your words before you spit them out. Words are your thoughts coming to life. It’s your choice.

What are your favorite quotes and wisdom to live by? I’d love to hear your thought on that.
Cheers,
Jonathan Gilbert
Hello samwl.thak you for writing to me.let me give my appr.topic
AFRICA AND THE EXTERNAL WORLD:
Beginning from the 7th c Africa started to have contacts with the external world. The following are the phases of the contacts.1st=7th-15th c, Africa with Asia; 2nd =15th c-18 Africa with Europe and 18th c-19 was colonial intrusion in Africa.
Early contacts with the middle and Far East:
These contacts started from 7th c and ended in the 15th c. The contact covered the East African coast from Mogadishu to Sofala. The societies of Asia were from China, Indonesia, Persia (Iraq), Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia and sri-lanka. They reach Africa by the help of monsoon winds.
Monsoon Cycle
Monsoon is a word meaning season of winds, from the Arabic word mawsin (MAW-sin). The world's largest monsoon system, powered by a seasonal warming and cooling of large air masses, occurs in the Indian Ocean. The wind patterns along the ocean shift direction in winter and summer, blowing from the southwest during half of the year and from the northeast for the other half. The monsoon also brings a dry season and a wet season.

The monsoon cycle is caused by three factors: the difference in the way land and water absorb the sun's heat; the effect of the earth's rotation on the atmosphere; and the storage and release of energy as water changes from liquid to water vapor and back again. The fact that land is hot and oceans are much cooler plays an important role in the development of monsoons. Land absorbs the sun's heat faster than any body of water.

In the summer, air masses over land heat up, expand, and rise. As warm air rises over the land, cool, heavy air full of water vapor from the ocean rushes in to replace it. The ocean air, blocked from moving further into Central Asia by the giant Himalayan Mountains, then releases the water vapor over land, bringing a season of rain. During the summer monsoon, which lasts from about June to September, parts of India receive 70%-90% of their total annual rainfall.

The opposite happens in the winter, however, because during that season the air over land cools more quickly than the ocean. As the ocean air rises, cooler air from the land rushes in to replace it. These northeast winter winds, which lose their moisture over the huge land mass of Asia, are much drier than the summer monsoon winds.

Motives of the contacts:
Social motives of the contacts:
Spreading the Islamic religion; Islam began in the Middle East in the 7th c AD: From there it spread to many parts of Asia. This resulted into the strong Islamic kingdoms in the Arabs world including Africa. Because of the conflicts of the anti Islams, they decided to go as far as Africa.
Seeking refuge; Some visitors were faced with political persecution in their own land. They therefore came in to Africa continent to get rid of the political persecution or conflicts because in Africa there is peace.
Exploration; Most of the Asians came in Africa to explore the land of Zenj (black people) and to see their culture. They assessed the accessibility of various parts of African Coast and the commodities available. They then report back to their countries. The report forced more visitors to our East African coast.
Establishing settlements; Some parts of Africa attracted many Asians and they establish their permanent settlements. They established different buildings along the in Arabic style. They came in a large number to Africa.
Economic motives of the contacts.
Trade; Many people from Asia came in Africa to make trade with coastal people of Africa. They brought goods from Asia and took others from Africa. The trade covered the East African coast from Mogadishu to Sofala in Mozambique. Their activities were possible due to the help of monsoon wind. Most of the traders were interested in gold from Monomotapa Empire via Sofala and Kilwa and slave from the coastline. They also took other items like Rhinocerous horns, bees wax, tortoise shells, leopards and lion skins as well as copper from Africa. From Asia merchant brought China dish, daggas, ear rings, silk, porcelain, iron port, swords, beads and coloured clothes from India.
Commercial exploration; Some of the visitors came in Africa to assess the resources. They wanted to know the climatic condition, mineral potentiality and economic activities found in Africa. By doing this it was easy to plan for the economic exploitation.

IMPACTS OF THE CONTACTS:
Social impact of the contacts with Far East through Indian Ocean:
1. The introduction of Islamic religion and culture; Many African societies agreed to be converted to Islamic religion. These went in hand with the spread of new dressing styles e.g. long robes, covering head and face with veil (women) and wearing a long robes and tarbin for men. In these areas people lived according to the Islamic laws called sharia.
2. Emergence of Kiswahili language; Arabs word and Bantu word formed Kiswahili language. Arab traders came into contact with Bantu speaking people and some Arab words were copied by the Africans e.g. marahaba, afande etc
3. Intermarriages; Because of the long run contacts between Africa and Asia people started to marry each other. These marriages led to the rise of new race called mulatoes.
4. Depopulation; Most of the people lost their life because of slave trade. Some died due to hunger and some run away from their family due to fear of being captured as a slave.
5. Growth of Towns and cities; Some of the towns emerged in the coastal areas. Many of these towns had natural harbours e.g. Mafia, Lamu, Malindi, Pate, Mombasa and Mogadishu.
6. Life of fear; During the contacts many people were captured from the interior as a slave. This led to the increase fear among the African societies.
Economic impacts.
1. Introduction of new crops; New crops such as rice, wheat, cloves, sugarcane, and oranges were introduced to the African continent from the Middle East. These crops improved the diets of Africa as they took these as their staple food crops.
2. Exposing Africa to the external world; The visitors who come in Africa travelled to many parts of the world and report to their mother countries about the potentiality of Africa and commodities found in it. These potentialities attracted other people to visit Africa. From these ground Africa was involved in the world economy. African products such as ivory, gold, leopard skins and ostrich feather were very popular and were sold over the world.
3. Introduction of money economy; Foreigners introduced the use of currency in trade. This was more convenient and replaced barter trade as the method of exchange. Coins began to be minted in the East Africa city state.
4. Introduction of new technology; People from the Far East and Middle East brought new technology to Africa. For example, they introduction advanced navigation techniques and the art of keeping records by writing. The dhows introduced by Arabs helped Africans along the Indian Ocean shore line to travel further. Fishing communities also used dhows in fishing. These fishing communities were such as Subi and Rongo of Lake Victoria and people around lake Tanganyika.
5. Unequal exchange; The goods taken from Africa by the Arabs were of good quality and valuable. Ivory, gold, slaves and animal skins has more value than beads, daggas, cowries shells and clothes brought from Asia.
Slave trade; Oman Arabs introduced slave trade to East Africa to work for their plantation in Zanzibar and others were taken to the far and Middle East as a domestic worker. They also sell slaves to Europe to work in their sugar plantation of Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion Island. This trade was inhuman because it reduced the human dignity.
Exploitation of African resources; Due to high demand of African commodities in the outside world, African resources were greatly exploited. For example large number of Elephant and Rhinocerous were killed for their horns and many strong young people were captured and sold as slave.
Decline of local industries; The introduction of local goods led to the decline of African local industries. Due to the availability of many varieties of clothes, utensils and tools from abroad few people bought locally made goods. As a result local production declined.
CONTACTS WITH EUROPE
The coming of Portuguese; Portugal is found in the South Western Europe. The contact between the Africa and Europe started in the 15th c.AD. By the time many changes happened in Europe socially, economically and politically. Due to great demand of gold and silver many traders from Portuguese started to come in Africa. By 1487 Bartolomew Diaz a Portuguese sailor reached the Cape of Good Hope. In1498 Vasco Dagama reached Malindi in Kenya.
Motives of the contacts between Africa and Portuguese:
Economic motives
Finding sea route to India; In the 15th century the Ottoman Turks had occupied a large part of Middle East blocking the overland trade route between India and Europe. Therefore European failed to get silk and spices from India and gold from Asia. The Portuguese were interested to trade with India via Indian Ocean.
Trade; The Portuguese wanted to trade with Africa and replace the Arab middlemen who took African goods to Europe. Portuguese traders took valuable goods from Africa and exchanged with European made goods. These Trades strengthen the Portuguese economy in the 15th century.
Creation of Portuguese trading Empire; Portuguese wanted to dominate the trade between Asia, Africa and Europe and create a trading Empire. To achieve this, the Portuguese had to overcome the Arab traders who dominated the trade .In addition it was necessary to prevent other European nations from colonizing the African coast because they would interfere with Portuguese trading interest.
Exploration of African resources; Portugal was poor country. The Portuguese were in search of resources that are profitable to them. For example, they discovered gold at Akan in West Africa and exported to Europe. Also they established settlements and plantations on Island of Sao Tome and Principe and use African labour to grow sugarcane. The products were exported to Europe and America.
Establishment of strategic Forts; African Coast had harbours that could serve as stopover points for their ships. The sailors could rest and refuel their ships. They also built fort like Elmina Catsle in modern day Ghana and Fort Jesus in Mombasa.
Social motives
Adventure; Some Portuguese explorers visited Africa in search of adventure. Their advanced ship building and navigation skills enabled them to travel far and wide in search of new land to exploit. These voyages were supported by the leaders in Portuguese especially Prince Henry the navigator.
Spreading Christianity; Portuguese aimed t reducing the power of Islamic religion along the coast of Africa as they were under Islamic religion for so long time. They thought that it was their duty to spread Christianity.
The search for Prester John; It was rumoured that there was king named Prester John who his kingdom was believed to be somewhere around Ethiopia in North East Africa. The Portuguese wanted to find these King and form an alliance with him against the Muslim.
Commodities of Trade
Portuguese brought Coloured clothes, maize, sugarcane, copper and brass items and from Africa they took slaves, gold, silver, ivory and animal skins.
Social impacts of the contacts
The Portuguese rule in Africa brought about the following social impacts.
(a)Growth of Kiswahili language; Portuguese words were added into Swahili language. For example leso (handkerchief) meza (table), gereza (prison), wino and mvinyo.
(b) Fear and insecurity; During the Portuguese conquest most of the indigenous lost their life. Those who opposed them were killed and these situations made people to be in a great fear.
(c)Destruction of properties; Portuguese raid caused the destruction of many homes, death, starvation and suffering. For example they burnt down buildings, cut down crops and killed people and livestock.
(d) Adoption of an architectural design; Elmina Castle in Ghana and the fort Jesus in Mombasa and the Vasco da Gama pillar were built in this kind f design.
Economic impacts of the Portuguese in Africa
(a)The Portuguese introduced new food crops such as maize, cassava, pineapple, pawpaw, groundnuts, sweet potatoes and guavas. Some of these crops became a staple food crops to Africans e.g. maize and cassava.
(b)The Indian Ocean trade was disrupted; They established travelling permit to the ship along the Indian Ocean. This trading license affected Arab traders and started to avoid coming to east Africa through Indian Ocean.
(c)Destruction of coastal city states; All city states that grew as a result of Indian Ocean trade declined because they were frequently conquered by the Portuguese
(d)It marked the beginning of underdevelopment of Africa; Poverty increased in Africa because Portuguese accumulated valuable goods in exchange with valueless goods e.g. gold was exchanged with beads. In this trade one side benefited than others. Also Portuguese took slave from East Africa and sent them to Cape Verde, Sao Tome and South America to work in the plantation of sugar.
The success of Portuguese rule in east Africa was due to; Superior weapons, rivalry among the coastal city states e.g. between Mombasa and Malindi, well trained army, divide and conquer tactics etc.

Hello student
Hopping that every thing is all right. My name is SAMWEL MASSAWE from Klerruu Secondary School Iringa Tanzania. As a student I would like to share to you about LIFE SKILLS.....
A skill is the ability of an individual to apply his/her mental and physical power to control the environment. It involves things like thinking, playing and implementation so as to solve social, political, economic and culture problems. These skills are the ability to understand one self, build sound relationships with others, survive under difficult circumstances, act responsibly and safely, and solve problems. It addresses the balance between knowledge, attitude and life skills....
There are various needs of life skills........
As children develop, their life begins to change. Adolescents may develop a variety of life skills to prepare them to face challenges, take up family responsibility, make decisions and think about what they want to be in the future. Life skills education addresses these issues for the benefit of the individual and society at large. Life skills equip adolescents with knowledge and attitudes that should lead to the requirement behavior. They reduce health risk and raise awareness on health and related behavior such as sexual abuse, drug abuse, violence, drunkenness, unwanted pregnancy, sexual transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS. Life skills play a decisive role in helping to prevent these behaviors and enlightening teenagers about these challenges so that they can protect themselves.
There are various sources of Life skills such sources of Life Skills where people learn from are
1. Family: Parents, guardians and other relatives are primary source from whom we learn different life skills.
2. Neighbors: We learn the different ways that people live from our neighbors. Good neighbors help us to behave well.
3. Friends: Friends helps us to acquire various life skills. Exchanging good ideas with friends help to mold us in to well-behaved individuals.
4. Schools: The good education we get at school enables us to develop skills for life.
5. Society: the way people live in the society allows an individual to learn what is expected of him/her and how he/she should behave in different circumstances.
6. Religion: Good religion teachings help to get skills which enable us to live harmoniously in society Note: The above mentioned sources of life skills are sources of positive and progressive life skills.
That is all about.

Hello Karen.I am fine and going on with my learning.this week i was busy learning and let me share this topic
MASSES AND MOLES OF COMPOUNDS.
A compound contains atom of different elements joined together by chemical bonds. For example the formula of water is H2O. This means that a molecule of water contains two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. To work out the mass of one mole of a compound the relative atomic masses of all the atoms in the compound are added together to given the formula mass.
The mass of a compound can be converted into moles by using the equation.
Number of moles = given mass of a compound
Formula mass of a compound

Answer
The formula of sodium hydroxide is NaoH
Its formula mass = (23 x 1) + (16 x 1 )
= 23 + 16 + 1
= 40g
Number of moles of sodium hydroxide = given mass sodium hydroxide
= Formula mass of sodium hydroxide
= 80/40 = 2moles
Example2:
What is the mass of 5 moles of water, H2O?
Answer:
Formula mass of water = ( 1 x 2) + (16 x 1)
= 18g
Rearranging the equation:
Mass = Number of moles x formula mass
= 5 x 18
= 90g
D. MOLES OF IONS
In calcium chloride, Cacl2 for example there are 2 chloride ions, cl- combined with each calcium ion Ca2+:
Cacl2 ====> Ca2 + 2cl
So in one mole of calcium chloride there are two moles of chloride ions and one mole of calcium ion. In the formula NaOH, one sodium ion, Na is combined with one hydroxide radical. So in one mole of sodium hydroxide there is one mole of sodium ion, Na and one mole of hydroxide radical, OH.
Example 1.
How many moles of as calcium ion and b) nitrate iron are there in 2 moles of calcium nitrate, Ca(NO3)2?
Answer
In one mole of Ca(NO3)2 ====> Ca + 2NO3 there is one mole calcium ion , Ca and two moles of nitrate ion NO3. So in two moles of calcium nitrate there are
2 x 1 = 2moles of Ca ions
2 x 2 = 4moles of NO3 ions
Example 2:
How many moles of a) Aluminium ion, Al3 and b) Sulphate ions are there in 3moles of aluminium sulphate. Al2 (SO4) 3?
Answer
In one mole of aluminium sulphate there are two moles of Aluminium ion and three moles of sulphate ions.
.
Hello Students!

I wanted to write to say hello to you all and to ask how your school year is going?

Almost all of the United States has been watching and reading about the hurricane that came ashore in the state of Texas last week, bringing very large amounts of rain up to 52 inches in 3 days. They had named the storm

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
