About

Lurdes was born in the city of Beira, Sofala province, on June 9, 2004, where she lived with her parents. She is an intelligent and very humble girl, and likes to play with her friends. Her preferred game is “mata mata” and in her free time she reviews school subjects and helps with the house duties. Lurdes’ father died in 2007, victim of illness, while working at the Central Hospital in Beira, while her mother died in 2014, also victim of illness, in life she was a peasant. She lives with her brother named Madeira Rafael Alcete who is 23 years old. For the support of the family, her brother does little jobs as servant in civil construction here and there. This is how the family gets their livelihood on a day - by – day basis, which is not enough to cover all their needs. When he returns from the jobs, he spends time to help his siblings with their schoolwork. Lurdes has 3 brothers and 1 sister, of whom 2 boys attend primary school. Her sister Verónica attended grade 8 and her brother Madeira attended grade 10 but did not enroll due to unmet conditions. The house where they live in is composed of 2 rooms, has an outside bathroom made of bags and has no piped drinking water. Her preferred subject at school is Geography and she wants to become a Teacher. During 2020, due to COVID 19, the students had to study at home, going weekly to the school to buy brochures and copies of tests. Most of the kids could not afford it.

Dear Sponsors,
The New school year started and I am very happy to be able to finish with my studies this year. I hope my dream to become a medical doctor will come true. Thank you so much.
Dear Sponsors,
First of all, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year 2024. I entered well together with my family.
I am ready for my last year of secondary school and will give my best to finish it with great marks.
During 2023 the classes went well, despite the fact that I had some health issues; I passed to grade 12 with positive marks.
Thank you very much for everything, and the support you have given me.
I wish you and your family all the best.
Dear Sponsors,
Thank you very much for your support. 2023 was not easy for me but I managed to pass the school year positively and I am ready for my last year of school.
Dear Leonore and Ramona,
I am very happy to know that I can proceed studying. the last few years were not easy but school help me to not lose hope. My marks are good and now I can dream again to achieve my goal to become a medical doctor.
Dear Sponsors,
The last 2 years were very difficult for me and my 2 little brothers. First we lost our home to the cyclone and had to find ways to live somewhere. Separated one from another, today here, tomorrow there. Even though, I managed to have good grades. Now, thanks to a generous sponsor of ASEM, our house has been reconstructed. Last month, we were finally reunited and are very happy. That allows me to invest even more time into my studies. I am deeply grateful for your support!
Dear Sponsor, I would like to know how your healthy is and your family.
My family and I are healthy. Last year I passed grade, now I am attending grade 9. At the beginning of the year we were having in-person classes, going to school twice a week, but in July 2021, classes were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, than opened again.
I thank you for everything you do for me and my family, so that I can go to school without any difficulty; thanks to your support I can acquire copies and manuals to be studying at home and eat.
I just hope that this situation ends very quickly so that our lives can return to normal, go to school every day, live freely in the city, without fear of the police due to the collection hours.
I thank you very much, I hope one day to meet you in person.
Dear Sponsors,
I am a new beneficiary of the T.S.F project, and study in grade 8th at the secondary school in Estoril.
I hope that you are in good health as well as your family. I am fine together with my family. Since the month of March, we are studying at home and in quarantine, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In October the classes with exam 10ᵃ and 12th started 2 days a week.
Thank you very much for your help. Warm greetings.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
