Hi Muthini,
So glad to hear that you have started back at school for the 2024 session. I imagine you are having a good time with your friends and with the teachers. You are right - the sky is the limit, if you know what goals you are pursuing, work hard, and ask for help when needed!
What is your favorite subject? What kind of work do you hope to undertake when you finish your studies? Do you enjoy reading books - if so, what is one of your favorites?
In my town, we are preparing for very cold weather with a little snow this weekend and early next week. I like the snow, but am not thrilled about how cold it might be! I must wear many layers of clothes when I go outside to stay warm. I am always amazed that birds survive below-freezing temperatures. We have many species of birds where I live, from finches, chickadees, cardinals to hawks, eagles, herons, and more. I've included a picture of a heron at a nearby lake.
It is good to hear from you - I look forward to another update!

Here is another picture of fall leaves.
Hi Muthini,
I am glad to hear from you, especially that you had a good term. I don't know what a candidate is - does that mean you are preparing to graduate from school?
I hope you have a lot of interesting books to read during your long holiday. I am starting a book today by an author who lives in my hometown. We are the same age, but went to different schools. She is one of my favorite authors (Ann Patchett). She also owns a bookstore here and is often there to talk to customers.
It is fall here in the U.S. and it has been beautiful. The leaves on the trees change color from green to amazing yellows, reds, orange, pink, and brown. I'm sharing a picture from a lake where I like to walk in the woods.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
Peace and love, Melissa

Hi Muthini! I was so happy to hear from you yesterday and learn that you are doing so well in school. You said that you enjoy poem reciting. Do you also write poetry? Have you heard of the American poet named Mary Oliver? She is one of my favorite poets. She has a collection titled "Why I Wake Early" - it has some beautiful poems based upon her walks in nature.
It sounds as if you have set some very high goals for yourself this year, with plans on how to accomplish them. Good for you!
What is your favorite subject in school?
What books are you reading, to build your language and writing skills? Do you have a favorite author? Musician or band?
I am taking online classes right now, to prepare myself for a new job in Data Analytics. I am 60 years old and still love to learn new things!
I'm attaching a picture of me, from a recent trip to Oregon (on the west coast of the U.S.) - in front of a gorgeous waterfall.
I hope your first week of school goes well. I look forward to hearing from you again. Peace and love, Melissa

Hi Melissa! I am glad to hear from you again.I hope you are fine and you are going on well.I am also doing on well especially in my academics. My academics during this term were not poorly done.I enjoyed so much to be in form three. In school i had been involved in various activities especially in co-curricular activities.I played basketball up to sub county level. My best subject is English and Geography.I also like Mathematics and Biology.During this term i had been involved in science fair Engineering in which i participated up to county levels.I also look forward to take a course in Engineering in one of the biggest University. We also had a show at Tsavo National park, where i saw lion, zebra and giraffe. It was such a wonderful walk that i enjoyed very much.During this holiday, I had been helping in weeding. This is

Hi Muthini, it was good to hear from you! I have not heard of the book, Land of Promise. What is it about? Are you finding it interesting? I recently read a book called Unlikely Animals (it is fiction) about a man who has brain cancer and has visions of animals as a result. The story is both funny and sad at the same time, but good things happen as a result of his visions.
I just took at walk at Radnor Lake, which is where I tend to see all the birds I mentioned in my previous post. Today it is overcast with a little rain. I saw a bald eagle and a red-bellied woodpecker. I think many of the other birds were in their nests!
So you go back to school on 24 Jan. What is your favorite subject? I liked my English class (because I love to read), and also enjoyed foreign languages, philosophy, and art classes. I didn't do as well in science and math, but guess what? I majored in engineering in college, which required A LOT of science and math! I guess it took having the right teachers and classes that interested me. I love math and science now - but mainly, I love the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that come with engineering. Do you have hopes of attending college/university someday?
I look forward to hearing from you again.
With love,
Melissa

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

The experience that I had early in life was to score good marks in my class, whereby I got good grades which encouraged me to study hard in class. The difficult experience that occurred in my life was an accident on my way back home. I learnt that I should not play again in bad areas. In my life I am proud of myself. I was getting low marks in class but now I have managed to improve a lot. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to play football. It exercises my body regularly and hence strengthens my body system. My dream is to become a mechanical engineer. The best way to reach it is through studying hard in school, in physics, mathematics and chemistry. If I had power in my country, I would change the education system of the country so that it helps graduates to depend more on self-employment.
