About

Benjamin is the first born child in his family. Both his parents live from hand to mouth but have been very supportive to Benjamin in his quest for education through doing casual jobs like drawing water for other people. Benjamin has always been very helpful to his parents in paying for his school fees by working casual jobs during school breaks. Despite all odds, Benjamin has stayed at the top of his class academically. He remains focused and is always ready to conquer any challenge that comes his way. For Benjamin, getting a good education is the only means to empower a community.

Hi Christi.
Thank you so much for your encouragements. Despite the challenges of academics, I am still focused to achieve my dream. I am encouraging you to continue pursuing your dream of becoming a lawyer. We all face challenges in achieving our dreams but we should never give up.

Best wishes,

Benjamin
Hi Benjamin,
I believe that you will achieve your dream of becoming a doctor. I have a dream to become a lawyer, and although I work hard to achieve it, sometimes it is difficult.

Good luck in your studies!

All the best,
Christi

Carly,
Once again i want to thank you and Kenya Connect for the continued support. I am very much eager to hear from your friends and i will be glad to communicate with them.

Kenya is fine but just like your area the weather is abnormally hot. We are waiting for the long rains that are due to start by the end of this month and run until May. So we have prepared our fields ready for the rains. People have already harvested Corn and beans from the previous rain season. In Kenya we experience two rain seasons.

The first term is coming to and end. We are eagerly waiting for the end term exams. I am studying hard to score well in the exams. Wishing you all the best in your studies.

Benjamin
Hi Benjamin!

I am very sorry for the late reply! I am so excited because I have gotten more students from my school involved in The School Fund, and they would like to write to you as well - there will be a lot of journals coming your way soon!

Thanks for telling me a bit about Kenya. What crops do people harvest at this time? The fact that you experience two seasons is interesting - we have four seasons here in Maryland. Right now we are experiencing abnormally warm weather for the month of March. I like warm weather, though, so I cannot complain. Because it is so warm right now, I like to go outside a lot and play tennis. Do you like playing sports?

I hope your classes are going well for this new term. I always like beginning new classes - there are so many new things to learn. I especially hope you are enjoying math, biology, and chemistry!

I am so glad Kenya Connect and The School Fund could help you with your school tuition. Dedicated and driven students such as yourself truly deserve a great school experience. I know you will work very hard to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor!

Take care,
Carly
Carly,

Greetings! I am happy to hear from you. Thank you for taking your time to write to me. I am fine and working hard in school in order to achieve my goals.

I would like to sincerely thank you for enabling me to stay in school through paying my school fees. I am happy because of Kenya Connect and The School Fund for this fortunate gesture.

Kenya is within the tropics so we experience only two seasons i.e. wet and dry seasons. Currently we are in the dry season and it is quite hot with temperatures as high as 30 degrees Celsius. it is harvest time and people are busy harvesting their crops.

In school we are very busy with our studies. This is the first term in the year and we are in new classes.

I love maths, biology and chemistry. I am happy to know that you love maths too. I also love reading.

Thanks once more for your tireless efforts to give me the opportunity to achieve my dreams in future.

Benjamin
Hi Benjamin!

My name is Carly Greenspan. I work with Kenya Connect and The School Fund. I am a student in Maryland, a state on the east coast of the US. It is very nice here, although it is a bit cold right now. I'd love to hear about your home!

How is school going? I see that one of your favorite subjects is math - I like math a lot too! I like to read as well. The book I am reading right now is called The Kite Runner. It is very good! I have never read Shrines of Tenderness. What is it about?

Best of luck in school! Take care!
-Carly

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
