Hi Francis,
I am happy to hear that you are working extra hard to get good grades in school. What do you like to study best? I only have one week left in my job and then I will take a break before going to law school. I appreciate your well wishes. I am a little nervous about starting school again, but I think that if I work hard enough, I will be able to achieve my goal to become a lawyer.

All the best,
Christi
Hi Christi,
Nice to hear from you. We are happy that our elections were peaceful. We are now anticipating to see the president fulfill his promises.

I am working extra hard in school to achieve good grades.

All the best
Francis.
Hi Danisha,

I'm happy to hear from you again. We are now back to school after a three week vacation. In school i am still working hard to achieve my dream of becoming an ambassador for my country.

We do speak several languages like mothertongue(kikamba), English and Kiswahili. I love to celebrate Christmas. Hope you pass in your exams.
Francis.
Hi Francis,

Please excuse my late reply-- I've been finishing my school exams. I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and aspiring to be such a strong willed young man! What is your dream for the future?

I'd love to hear more about your culture. What languages do you speak? What is your favorite day of celebration?

Best wishes.

-Danisha
Hi Francis,
I'm glad to hear that you are well! I watched the elections in Kenya with great anxiety and anticipation. I am happy to hear that the elections were peaceful. In America we held elections late last year and Barack Obama won again. I am proud to have a Kenyan for a president.

I am working hard to achieve my dream of becoming a lawyer. I was admitted to law schools and I plan to join one in the fall-- perhaps the one that Barack Obama attended. What is the dream that you are working for?

All the best,
Christi

Hi Francis,
My name is Danisha Romero. I am a Freshman in college at the University of New Mexico and work for a local non-profit called Project PeacePal. How is school going for you? I hope very well. I see that you take an interest in history-- as do I. I love learning about different cultures, particularly about art and music. I love to sing and write and currently I'm learning to play guitar.

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind me asking. What makes you feel at peace? Or for the lack of better words, what makes you happy? Also, how is your mother and family?

Take care and I hope to hear from you soon!

Your new friend,
Danisha Romero

Hi Christi,
I am happy to receive your journal. Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I am still working hard in school.

During the vacation I was busy helping my parents in preparing our farm. The vacation was to last for one month but it was prolonged by a teachers strike. During the vacation I did not forget my books so after working in the farm I took sometime to revise my notes. On Sundays after church I go to the local market to watch movies.

Wishing you all the best

Francis
Hi Francis,
Congratulations on your achievement! A B- is a very good grade. I hope that you will continue to do well in school. I know that hard work will help you get good grades.

Please let me know how you spent your vacation. In the US, students have school holidays from June-August. When I was in school I used to spend my school holidays in New Hampshire. I'm including a picture below so that you can see what New Hampshire looks like.

All the best,

Carly,
Thank you very much for your journal. I appreciate your efforts of making sure that i am always in school. I love the idea of communicating with other students through The School Fund. I know i will learn a lot from them.

Currently we are towards the end of first term and i am working hard to score well in the end term exams. I am always focused to achieve my goal.

Sundays is my day off from school. I go to church in the morning and Play football with my friends in the afternoon. I also help in the household chores.

Thank you once again for your encouragements. I will keep communicating with you.

Francis.
Hi Francis!

I'm so happy to hear from you! I apologize for the late reply, but the good news is that more students from my school are getting involved in these journals, so there will be more journals coming your way soon!

I am so glad you are now able to concentrate on your studies. It is so important that you have the opportunity to pursue your goals and aspirations. I think it is really neat that you would like to become an ambassador. I would like to hold a job in diplomacy and foreign relations as well! Learning about other cultures and languages is so interesting.

Wow, four kilometers is a nice-sized walk. I sometimes walk to school as well because I like to be outside for a little while before and after the school day. What do you like to do on Sundays when you don't have school?

I'm so happy that you like being in school. With your hard work, I know you will accomplish your future goals!

Take care!
Carly

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
