About

Jackson is the first born child in a family of five children. He comes from Kaliambeu village in Mwala district. Before he joined Mbaani secondary school in 2010 he was in Kaliambeu primary school. His mother is the sole breadwinner of the family and earns a living through doing casual jobs. His father has deserted and neglected the family. Jackson walks to school every day because he cannot afford to pay the boarding fees. He has constantly been sent home for missing school fees but he is determined to achieve his goals in the future. His mother has never been able to afford any of Jackson's school fees since he joined school in January 2011; thus, Jackson has a large outstanding fee balance. Jackson is quite bright in class and hopes to get a good education to be able to support his family in the future.

Hi Christi,
Hope you are well. I love soccer and volleyball and i find them easier and interesting. I am not good at badminton. I am still working hard in school and i am confident i will make it.

Cow peas and green grams are legumes and are cooked by boiling. They are so sweet i wish you could taste them.

Nice time

Jackson
Hi Jackson,
You are on the school team for soccer and volleyball? That is very impressive! I was on the school team for badminton, but I think badminton is a bit easier than soccer or volleyball :)

What is a cowpea and a green gram? I don't know those food. How do you eat them?

All the best,
Christi
Hi Christi,
Nice to hear from you. I am doing well in school. After opening we sat for a continuous assessment test and I performed well. My favorite ball games are soccer and volleyball. I am actually in the school team.

In Kenya people plant different crops depending on their location. In our area we plant crops like maize, beans, cowpeas, pigeon peas, green grams, pumpkins, cassava among others. I have never seen figs but I have seen tomatoes.

Warm regards,

Jackson
Hi Jackson,
What do people grow on their farms? Does your family grow any crops? I worked on a farm last summer where we grew many different kinds of vegetables. My favorite were the cherry tomatoes and figs. I'm including a picture of figs below in case you have never seen one.

I hope that school is going well for you! What kind of ball games do you play?

All the best,
Christi

My favorite topic in History is the Constitution. By understanding this topic i will be able to achieve my goal of becoming a lawyer.

Hi Jackson!

My name is Carly Greenspan and I work with Kenya Connect and The School Fund and I wanted to introduce myself. I am so glad these two organizations are able to support your education. I know you will do well in school, and I know you will reach all your future goals!

How is school going? I see one of your favorite subjects is history. I love history too! What is your favorite topic to learn about in history class? History is a very good subject to know when becoming a lawyer. I think practicing law would be a very interesting career, and I may even want to become a lawyer, like you.

One of my favorite hobbies is playing sports. I play a lot of tennis and football. Do you have a favorite football team or a favorite player?

I wish you the best of luck in school! Take care!

-Carly
Dear Kelsie,
Warm greetings! I am most grateful and appreciative for your support for my education. Its now Christmas vacation and schools here are closed. We shall re-open in January 2012. I will continue to put more efforts in my studies for prosperity in life. I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!

Thanks.

Jackson.
Jackson, I admire your determination to finish your education. I am a teacher in the United States and have students who receive a free education and take it for granted every day. Please let me know how things go for you in Kenya. Best wishes, Kelsie.

I have experience planting vegetables because my parents do that. Also, we have a garden at our home. Therefore, that is experience I have had in life. Apart from that experience, I also had a difficult experience when I failed my geography exam. That enabled me to learn how to cooperate with other students. I was so proud of myself when I performed well in my national exam. The memorable and happiest moment in my life will be when I reach my dream of being pilot. I will be so happy. My biggest dream is to be a pilot. I will get there through studying hard in physics, geography, and mathematics. After reaching my dream, I will help my parents to modify their cultivation system and to become professional farmers. From there they can expand the area of cultivation into a large plantation. Once I get a chance to have the power to change my country, I will build many airports in each region and some districts. This will help in the flexibility of transportation in my country.

Notable experiences in my life are, first, passing my standard seven examination and, second, entering secondary school. My most difficult experience was when I started to learn English. I have learned that if you want to do something, you have to work hard. I felt proud was when I entered secondary school. My most memorable and happiest thoughts are from when I celebrated at my birthday party. My dream is to be an electrical engineer. I will get there through studying hard and doing well in science subjects. If I had the power to change my country, I would like to improve the electricity supply especially in rural areas because there are shortages of electric power.

Experiences in my life are when I failed my examination during primary education and also when my parents failed to pay food for me. My difficult experiences in my life are when my parents have insufficient enough money to pay for all my basic needs at school such as food and other school contributions. The thing that makes me feel so proud of myself is when I succeeded in joining O-level education. This makes me feel that I will, I must, I can do everything. The most memorable and happiest thing in my life will be to reach my dream of being a doctor general so as I can help other people in society. My future dream is to be a GOOD surgical doctor. After me reaching my dream, I will give back help to my society and family, but also to WEF. I need to work hard upon reaching my dream in my life. Once I get chance to have power of changing anything in country, I will improve the education system by converting science subjects from theory to practical. In most of our schools, they teach science subjects mostly theoretically. I will start from there because as we know education is the key to every success in our people.
